Mary's POV
"Look who we have here." The popular guy Brad said while pushing me into the locker. "What's the quiet little freak up to?" I just stared at the ground. "Look at me when I'm talking to you." He roughly grabbed my chin forcing me to look at him.
"Please stop." I whimpered.
"Did you hear that guys? She wants me to stop." He laughed as his friends joined. "I'll never stop. I live to make your life hell." He said as he slapped my face. He shoved me to the ground and walked off. His friends followed spitting on me as they passed.
I got up and walked out the schools front doors with my head low. My cheek still sings and I'm sure there is a red hand print glowing. I don't know how much more if this I can take. Every day it’s the same thing from the same people. I continued to walk until I reached my house and saw my father’s truck parked in the driveway. I creeped towards the living room window and peeres in. Dad was sitting on the couch beer in hand plus numerous others littering the floor. Though if looked like he was passed out so I unlocked the front door and tip toed in. Pain radiated from the back if my head as I fell to the floor. I rolled over to see my dad holding a baseball bat. He struck my side as I tried to get up. He fell when he took a step forward and I took it as my chance to run. I ran out the front door tears falling as pain shot through my side. I continued running until I reached the park and ran into someone but kept going. I ran into the woods to my favorite spot. I stopped at the edge of the cliff and saw a blurred outline of a waterfall crashing into a little pond below. I just stood there unsure of what to do next.
Niall's POV
I was walking through the park when a girl ran into me. She looked upset as she kept running so I followed. I know I'm supposed to be meeting the lads but something told me this was more important. I followed her until she stopped at the edge of cliff. She looked like she was thinking.
"Hey." I said causing her to flinch. "What are you doing?"
"Just go away." She said and I knew she was or at least had been crying.
"I can't do that till I know what you're doing." I told her.
"You don't care just go away." She said stepping closer to the edge.
"My name's Niall. What's yours Love?" I asked her.
"Mary." She answered starring over the edge I slowly approached from behind.
"It suites you." I told her still stepping closer.
"What do you mean?" She asked confused.
"It's a beautiful name for a beautiful girl." I told her.
"You're lying." She accused getting ready to jump.
"No I'm not." I said grabbing her by the waist and pulling her back into me. She buried her head in my chest and cried. "Ssshh. It's alright."
"Sorry." she said as she tried to leave.
"Don't be but why?" I asked her confused at how such a beautiful girl could want to do this to herself.
Mary's POV
"You really don't want to know. As soon as I tell you you'll think I'm stupid and leave. You don't even care." I told him looking at his chest.
"I do care and why would I leave a beautiful girl so broken." He said causing me to stare at the ground. "Please tell me why."
I sighed not believing I was about to tell this complete stranger things I've never told anyone. "When I was thirteen my mom left me and my dad. She said we weren't good enough for her and that we didn't deserve her. After she left my dad began to drink a lot and with that came abuse." Tears started to roll down my face even faster as I took a deep breath. "For some people the abuse would stop when they left for school and start again when they got home but not for me." I looked up at him to see tears beginning to form in his beautiful blue eyes but there was also I hint of anger. "Every day I wake up to abuse and go to school and get it but it's not as bad as dad. H...he uses baseball bats or...." I couldn't continue I was crying to hard. Niall just held me as I cried.
