Mary's POV
As I stared up at the bright blue sky soaking up the warmth of the sun I couldn't keep from smiling. Today was the big day, the showing of our spring production, my performance as the swan. My ballet class was doing the production of Swan Lake. I walked through my front door and into my kitchen where my mother was putting away dishes.
"Hi Mum." I greeted as I opened the fridge.
"Hello dear." she said. "Dinner is in the oven."
"Okay. Don't forget I have to be at the theater by six." I reminded her.
"Is there someone who can take you? Me and your dad have to run a quick errand but we'll be there by the time it starts." She asked.
"Yea. I'm sure Charlie would take me." I replied.
"Okay. Bye sweetie." She said kissing my cheek and leaving. I went to the window to see dad already backing out of the driveway. I grabbed my phone and called Charlie.
"Hey. How's my Mar Bear?"
"Great. How's my Char Bear?" I asked.
"I'm great." he answered chuckling at our old nicknames.
"Can you take me to the theater by six?" I asked.
"I'm sorry but I can't. I have to do something for my mom." He answered.
"Oh okay but you're still coming to the show right?" I asked hopeful.
"Of course." he replied which made me perk up a bit.
"Okay." I said.
"Well I got to go. Bye. Love you." Charlie said.
"Bye. Love you too." I said and hung up. Well at least he's coming. We haven't hung out in forever. I got dinner out of the oven to see it was pizza. I ate a couple slices then put the rest away. I went upstairs and took a quick shower. When I got out it was 5:30 and I knew it would take at least twenty minutes to walk there so I grabbed what I needed and left. When I got there no other cast had arrived just the crew.
"Hey there Mary." Jeff our stage manager greeted.
"Hey." I replied.
"Will you help me?" He asked.
"Sure. What do you need me to do?" I asked.
**start of show**
"Places everyone." Mrs. Carter said as the show was about to begin and she went out on stage to welcome everyone as we took our places. The curtains opened revealing us to the audience where all our family and friends sat except for mine. The three seats I had reserved for my parents and Charlie were empty. They're just a running late I thought as we began our first dance.
After all the dances the audience applauded and yet my parents nor Charlie were around. I went back to change out of costume and then headed to the front of the building hoping that they would be there waiting to congratulate me. I looked around all the people who were waiting many telling me I did great but no one I loved was there. Soon everyone had left and I was left alone in the front of the theatre.
"Dear do you need a lift home?" Mrs. Carter asked as she was about to leave.
"No my parents are on their way." I answered.
"You mean they didn't come to watch you?" She asked shocked.
"No Ma'am they didn't." I answered sadly.
"I'm sure they meant to dear. They probably just got side tracked with something. If you need anything call me." She said.
"I will." I replied as she left leaving me alone listening to the thunder and lightning crack outside as the rain poured down. I pulled out my phone and called my mom but it was turned off so I tried dad and his was turned off too. I wonder why their phones are off. Maybe Charlie will come and get me I thought as I dialed his number. It rang then went to voicemail. Looks like I'm walking home. I walked to the door then looked out at the pouring rain. I was going to be soaked by the time I got home but it appears to be the only way to get home.
