EXT. CAMPUS - DAY

Mr. Birch stood in a secluded corner, a cigarette in hand, desperately trying to clear his head and calm the turbulent emotions within. The sight of Arya leaving the building caught his attention, her demeanor visibly shaken.

ARYA
(Exiting the building, visibly shaken)

As Arya stepped outside, another student approached her, engaging in a conversation that seemed to momentarily lift the heaviness from her shoulders.

OTHER STUDENT
(Engaging Arya in conversation)

Mr. Birch, hidden in the shadows, watched with a mixture of frustration and jealousy. The ease with which the other student conversed with Arya heightened his own internal struggle.

MR. BIRCH
(Internal thought, frustrated) Why can't I talk to her like that? Why is it so difficult?

As the conversation between Arya and the other student continued, Mr. Birch's frustration grew. He felt a surge of anger at himself for letting the distance between them widen to a point of no return.

MR. BIRCH
(Internal thought, angry)
This is my doing. I pushed her away, and now someone else can make her smile.

Arya and the other student eventually started walking off campus together, her arm linked with his. Mr. Birch, hidden in the shadows, could only watch as they departed, a knot of jealousy tightening in his chest.

ARYA
(Looking back, their eyes locking)

For a brief moment, Arya's gaze met Mr. Birch's, and an unspoken exchange passed between them. Her mouth opened slightly, as if about to say something, before she looked away again.

MR. BIRCH
(Internal thought, conflicted) What have I done? She deserves better than this.

Left alone in the shadows, Mr. Birch grappled with the consequences of his actions. The sight of Arya walking away with someone else fueled a realization that the distance he created might be irreversible, and the ache of regret settled heavy in his heart.

INT. MR. BIRCH'S OFFICE - DAY

Mr. Birch, filled with a mix of frustration and jealousy, stormed back into his office after witnessing Arya with another student. The intensity of his feelings pushed him to make a decision, one he believed was necessary to protect both of them.

MR. BIRCH
(Internal thought, frustrated)
This can't continue. I need to take control before it spirals out of hand.

He closed the door behind him, pacing the room as he considered the potential consequences of their growing connection. He knew he had to create some distance, not just emotionally but professionally.

MR. BIRCH
(Internal thought, determined)
I can't let this affect my job, her future, or the reputation of the university. I need to set clear boundaries.

He reached for his phone and started planning a meeting with the department head for the next day.

MR. BIRCH
(Internal thought, planning)
Tomorrow, I'll recommend reshuffling mentorship assignments. Arya deserves a mentor who can guide her without personal complications.

As he typed the email, he couldn't shake the weight of the decision he was making. It was a necessary sacrifice to protect them both from the potential fallout.

MR. BIRCH
(Internal thought, conflicted)
This is the right thing to do. It's for her benefit, for mine, and for the sake of professionalism.

With a heavy sigh, Mr. Birch hit send, sealing the fate of their mentor-student relationship. He knew that the next day would mark a significant change, one that he hoped would prevent their connection from leading to a dangerous path.
