October 31st, 2002

It's been a little more than about a year since she and I started dating. I'd say the relationship was going good. I still felt like she was keeping things from me, but I decided to overlook it. She made me happy and I had very little doubt that she would do to me what my last girlfriend did. She didn't seem like that type of girl.

I poured a bag of assorted candy into a bowl, because in the apartment complex I was living in, there were a lot of children and the parents let them wander the halls, knocking on their neighbors doors and trick-or-treating that way.

My front door clicked open and I looked back over my shoulder, seeing her walk in.

"Hey, you made it!" I exclaimed, picking up the bowl and bringing it over to the little table that sat by the door and collected all my junk mail. I kissed her on the cheek.

"I swear, those kids in your apartment building are seriously adorable, Patrick. I thought they were going to kill me with their adorableness before I could make it up here," She retorted, setting down her bag on the couch I had prepared for our movie night we planned on having once the trick-or-treaters were all home. Bowl of popcorn, blanket to wrap around both of us and keep us warm.

"Where's your costume?" I asked her, spinning around to face her, the cape of my Batman costume being picked up in the air. I hadn't put the mask on yet.

"I did dress up..." She approached me and slung her arms around my neck, "I'm dressed up as me, the scariest human being you'll ever come across and the other half to the nicest person ever to walk this planet. But he's not here tonight. He's dressed up as Robin, right?" I knew she was making fun of me, but I still took offense.

I scoffed, "Excuse me. Robin wears a freaking leotard. I'm wearing a suit. I'm Batman!"

"I don't know, Batman's voice is a lot deeper than that..." She ran her fingers through my hair, the corner of her dark red lips curling upward into a smirk.

"I'm Batman," I repeated in a deeper voice, though my voice cracked and she burst into laughter, stumbling away from me as her whole body went into her laugh. I began to laugh too.

That's when there was a knock on my door. Our laughter subsided and I opened the door, revealing three small children standing outside. One was dressed up as Cinderella, another one was a bumblebee, and the last one was a firefighter.

"Trick or treat!" They all exclaimed in unison, holding up their little pumpkin baskets.

I picked up the bowl and held it out to them, smiling, "Take a handful."

The three shoved their hands into the bowl and grabbed as many miniature candy bars as their little hands could hold. They thanked me and scurried to the next apartment.

I closed the door and looked back to see her staring at me with a wide smile on her face.

"What?" I asked.

She squealed, "They're just so cute!"

"Not as cute as me, though, right?" I walked up to her and pulled her closer to me by the hips.

"Right," She agreed.

I smiled at her before leaning in for a kiss. She grabbed me by the chest plate to deepen the kiss. The whole world kind of melted away at that moment in time and I almost missed the next knock on my door. I pulled away from her and glanced over my shoulder.

I heaved a sigh and detached myself from her, going to answer the door.

"Trick or treat!"

It was later that night and all the children had returned to their apartments. My girlfriend and I were hanging out in my living room, a scary movie on the television, though we weren't paying attention to it - it was more or so just background noise. She was lying upside down on the couch and I was lying on the floor covered in candy wrappers and empty beer bottles.

"Trick..." She said, looking at me, "..or treat?" She pulled out a candy bar from behind her back and stared at it for a little. She glanced at me and then back at the bar. "I don't know what to choose...they're both so sweet..."

"You better make the right decision," I told her, sitting up and laughing.

She bit her lip before flipping over and pouting, "Why do I have to choose? Why can't I have both?"

"Who said you can't?" I smirked, crawling towards her and tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear. I stared into her emerald green eyes before leaning in and pressing my lips against hers. She smiled against my lips before pulling me up onto the couch with her. I yelped in surprise.
