STRAY DOG, ALL TEETH NO CHARM ✷ CHAPTER TWO:
TO BE HONEST, Min Yiseul was not entirely sure of what she doing. Regardless of her attempts to make it seem casual, there was nothing casual about it to begin with.
She didn't need the extra cash, nor did she particularly enjoy the feeling of wind ripping through her hair and whipping at her sides. She wasn't doing this for him either, the thought left a bitter taste on her tongue and momentarily let her forget her surroundings. It seemed apparent that every act Yiseul performed was for her own selfish gain.
"You don't have to come with me," Suho protested as Yiseul unfastened her helmet.
"Don't let me stop you then." She gestured for him to continue on his path, even going as far as to step out the way so he could pass by.
Suho scoffed as he gave her a slow once over. "You didn't even answer my question."
She scratched the back of her head. "It's weird, Suho. It's not normal."
She heard him chuckle. "Don't act like I wouldn't do the same for you."
She jolted at the reminder and hummed affirmatively. "Sure," she breathed. "I'm sure he'll appreciate it."
She couldn't hide the unease that settled in the pit of her stomach. It only seemed to harden and fester with time.
He didn't spare her a second look, only strode past as he banged his fists against the door.
Yiseul clenched her own fists and bit down on her lip. Often, she felt like a stray dog when she was around Suho, one who put her snout to close to the ground, like a rabid dog.
A heinous voice in her head told her to begin her snarling.
She blinked, suppressing her thoughts. Her eyes burned and her stomach turned as she stared down at the doorknob, watching as the lock stayed shut.
Begrudgingly, she shoved past Suho. She knocked, once then twice. The urgency seemed to dissipate by the third, her heart no longer hammered away in her chest. She was almost about to call it defeat; to spin back around on her heels and trudge down the many flights of stairs she had taken to get up there, when the door shifted open with a creak.
Streams of sterile light filtered out onto the narrow balcony.
Si-eun blinked down at her. There was curiosity swimming in his eyes, more emotion than she'd ever seen him display before.
She froze.
"What do you want?" He questioned, annoyance in his tone.
She tried to straighten her back, to make herself seem bigger than she was as she scowled at him.
But Min Yiseul had no words left to give.
Hastily, she stepped out the way, eyes boring into Si-eun's as Suho's mind began its whirring.
SUHO STARED DOWN at Yiseul from where she sat perched atop a chair in his grandmother's shop. He had never seen her look so angry. He suspected that she knew he was watching her—could feel the burning sensation boring into the side of her face.
But there was fire in her eyes, fire in her soul.
Yiseul forced out a strangled laugh. "I can't believe you thought that would be a good idea."
He blinked, his face twisted as he offered her a half-hearted frown. "I didn't think you'd walk out of there, Yiseul." He retorted bluntly.
"And stay where I wasn't wanted?" She seethed, her clenched fists slammed down against the table.
Suho flinched as the table shook, but Yiseul didn't seem to notice.
"I really don't see the problem, Yiseul. He's not a threat," Suho sighed. He never had—had never cared to explore the burning desire coursing through her veins. It seemed to choke her like the sin of lust had choked him.
She scoffed, "You might not, but I do. We don't need another friend."
A long pause.
Yiseul's face turned red, her cheeks had begun to heat up. "I didn't- That's not what I meant."
He turned away. "You should go home, Yiseul," he insisted. He couldn't look at her when she was being like this; so unreasonable, so possessive. It was not like he would be able to get a single word through to her when she was in such a state.
She nodded, stiff. "Yeah. Tell grandma I said hi."
The air between them was thick and humid as Yiseul stood, and her footsteps were too loud as they reverberated against the tiled floor, so was her heart as it rung heavy in her ears.
