The next stop was my brothers, or the son of Posidens mattress place. We stopped and Got more snacks too.
We had a sing along in the car , but the sing along included of me, sawyer, and Grover. AnnaBeth did not like singing.
I could hear her occasionally start humming to some of the songs but she just sat there silently with her arms crossed for most of the ride.
She was closed off most of the time, no one but sawyer could get through her. She put up this mask and let no one see what she was really like.
When we got to the mattress place, it was freaky. AnnaBeth told us the story about how he would trap the travelers in the beds, not letting them get to the underworld.
"Be safe." Sawyer says to AnnaBeth as we get out of the car and we walked towards the door, I looked at AnnaBeth and she nodded putting on her mothers hat.
I walked in first, a small bell ringed. alerting whoever was in here. I looked around, the place was just filled with beds.
Different shapes, colors, fabrics all lined the walls. A man came out from the corner, he was older. His hair grey, his face wrinkled but his style was young.
He wore a brightly colored green velvet suit, it matched the bed behind him. "Welcome weary traveler! please feel free to try any of the beds out." He smiled.
The beds were traps, he would lure them to lay down so they couldn't get to the underworld. Then they would unfortunately die.
"Missing our mommy aren't we?" He teased, his hands linked behind his back. His suit made me wanna throw up looking at it.
"I know who you are." I paused "procrustes, son of Poseidon. Murder of travelers." He just stood there looking at me. "Crusty, please." He asked.
Crusty stepped close to me "and you... you've got dad's eyes." He pointed out, but I didn't want anything about me to look like him.
"Please, take a load off and relax." He offered but I shook my head "the beds are trap, that's how you kill your guests."
He fakes a 'Me' look, points to his chest with a shocked expression "I do?" He asked. "I know there's a passage to the underworld here, and you were left to guard it."
There was music plaything in the background, the type that you would hear in an elevator. "I just really need you to let me through." I asked but crust started to walk.
I followed after him "even though these beds are extremely comfortable, they are great for self Confidence. They show you how to fit." He advertises.
"I'm really not interested in the beds right now.." I start to get suspicious on what he was doing. "Fitting in is so hard for guys like us, our parents make it so hard." He cuts me off.
"Turning us, twisting us.." the way he was speaking made me feel gross, I don't know why exactly but I didn't like it. "But these beds take it all away!"
Crust hits the mattress which is watery. "Try it." He offered. "You first." I said then AnnaBeth pushed him onto the bed.
"You're not gonna save her, you haven't been the first to try or fail!" He groaned. "Hey dummy, we can still cut your head off." AnnaBeth silenced him.
We heard the ding of the door again, it was sawyer and Grover peaking their heads through. "Is it over yet?" Grover asked and we nodded.
We stood in the office infront of the door "are we sure this is it?" Sawyer asked and Grover opened the door, almost immediately closing it.
"It's the world of the dead, or someone left a milk carten from the 1990's in there!" Grover gagged, AnnaBeth handed him a red ball that she found on the desk.
He squeezed it a couple times "better?" AnnaBeth asked and Grover nodded. "Worst case scenario, when we get out. I shouldn't have both pearls, so you guys can get my mom out and not me."
He handed the extra pearl to AnnaBeth, then we walked into the passage way. "How do we even know where we are supposed to go?" Sawyer asked and I think everybody shrugged.
I walked in first then everyone else, the whole Place was dark, no sense of light at all. When we exit the passage it was blank.
There was nothing but just grey, we all looked around. "Is it wrong to say I'm nervous?" Sawyer spoke and AnnaBeth shushed her.
We all hid behind piles and piles of rocks, there was only a tall wall besides us. "Not in Kansas anymore." I whispered and AnnaBeth turned around
"Focus, we left Kansas four days ago." She shushed me aswell. "Is that.." Grover started to speak "Charon, the boatman." AnnaBeth cut him off aswell.
"Let's go." She instructed and we all followed behind her, we walked through a line of dead people, I could hear sawyers "gross" behind me. "Only suckers wait in line." I say to Grover who had said something beforehand.
When we get to the front we are met with charon. "You guys aren't dead." He spoke sternly. "We're all dying... in some sort." I made an excuse.
"And you didn't pay." He sighed. And Grover pulled out the bag of drachmas and I took a handful. "We will pay just take all of them."
Charon took a whistle out of his pocket and blew it. But none of us could actually hear it. Then we heard dogs growl.
"Guys we have to go!" I shouted and we all started running, the dogs coming after us quickly. If they were little, I would definitely call them cute but right now they weren't.
I wish I had done track, because being a Demi-god includes a lot a lot of running. We ran, pushing through the souls of the people in line.
Then all of the sudden Grover gets eaten, I think. "Grover!" I shouted. But then the dog or dogs fell to the floor.
Me and sawyer watched the dogs and waited to see if Grover was alive or not, then one of the dogs mouth started to move.
"Ewwww !!" Sawyer covered her eyes and turned around at the sight of Grover emerging from the dogs mouth, covered in slobber.
