| Chapter 1 | An 'unlucky' pairing.

I skipped along the footpath, my sister, Lumine, walking beside me.
"I wonder if we'll know anyone there!" I hum in delight.
"It's 7:00 in the morning, you're too energetic, I'm too tired for this." Lumine sighs.
"Well you're happy." I roll my eyes and slow down to walk.
"I hope your twinkish ass gets kicked the moment you walk into the premises." Lumine snickers and then yelps as I punch her shoulder.
"I hope... Um... argh." I growl as I run ahead in frustration, unable to think of a comeback.
I come to an abrupt halt as I round the school gates, I gape up at the tall school-building before me.
"That looks bigger then celestia!" Lumine gasps.
As me and Lumine walk in, people are whispering and staring. I just wave with a bright smile painted on my face.
I talk to a few people, asking question, and it's not long before me and Lumine are surrounded by a crowd of curious students, some even shouting compliments.
How kind of them! Do they treat everyone like this? I ponder.
*goofy ahh bell noises*
As the students hear the bell ring, they all disperse quickly off into the classrooms so they aren't late.
"See you at lunch, Lumi!" I smile and wave before jogging off to my first class, English.
As i walk into the classroom, a Young woman is standing there, she had brilliant blonde hair, a slightly lighter shade then mind, that was tied into a neat ponytail.
"Ah, you must be one of the new students, Aether, if I'm correct?" She asks and I nod. "Well that's great, I'm Jean, I'll be your English teacher this year." She smiles and signals to an empty desk. "That will be your seat."
"Thank you, Ms. Jean." I bow before shuffling to my desk. I'm next to a boy with dark blue hair, he had, strange, cat like pupils and was wearing an oversized black hoodie with cute cat ears, on my other side, a cheeky looking ginger.
"Your the new student, there are many interesting rumors about you." The ginger says. "I'm Tartaglia, code name Childe. Nice to meet you."
I shake Childe's hand before Jean claps to get the classes attention.
"This semester, you will be paired up with one other person to do an assignment on either Mondstat, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, Natlan, Shneznaya, or Fontaine. Included it your research must be their Archon, traditions, and any famous landmarks. Feel free to add extra information, I may give you extra points for that." Ms. Jean winked. "Now, you will not be choosing your partners-" the whole class groaned in annoyance. "-buuuttt... you will write your name down, scrunch it up, and choose another name from the hat." She gestured to the hat sitting on the desk.
I was on of the people chosen to grab a name. I walk up and grab a piece of neatly folded paper before heading back to my desk.
I unfold the paper to see the handwriting;

X̳i̳a̳o̳

Xiao? Who's that? I look around.
"Don't know who you got? Let me help." Childe leans over and looks at my paper before gritting his teeth and breathing in, making a small hiss.
"Goodluck, Xiao in the short boy to your left. Here's some info; Not a fan of being social, can be a little rude and very independent." Childe pats my shoulder and i turn to the blue haired boy in the hoodie.
I grab a note out and write;

.𝐼'𝓂 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝓅𝒶𝓇𝓉𝓃𝑒𝓇 𝒻𝑜𝓇 𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓈 𝓅𝓇𝑜𝒿𝑒𝒸𝓉.

I slip the note onto his desk, he grabs it then looks at me, raising a questionable eyebrow.
He flipped the note over and wrote back

ᴼᵏ, ᵇᵘᵗ ⁱ ᵈᵒⁿ'ᵗ ᶜᵃʳᵉ ᵗʰᵃᵗ ᵐᵘᶜʰ.

Oh, what a boring person. I sigh and lean back in my chair, putting my hands behind my head, for the rest of the class, i could feel Xiao's gaze lingering on me.
The day went by quite fast, and loudly, but I got around the people and found Xiao leaning against a locker. Is he an edgy emo boy? That's kinda cute. I smile as i approach him.
"Hey, Xiao, since we are working on the project together, I was hoping to get your number in case I need to contact you."
"What? Uhm. Okay." His voice sounded raspy and possibly even dry.
I passed him my phone and he wrote his number in, nicknaming himself just Xiao.
"Thanks, I'll text you later!" I smile and wave before finding Lumine talking to a girl with light blue hair, a fan in her hand.
Was Lumi.. Blushing? What in Barbatoes name? I furrow my brow and walk over her her.
"Lumine, let's get going." I put my hand to my sisters shoulder.
"Just go without me, I'm talking to Ayaka." She brushes my hand off and keeps on talking to Ayaka.
Hm. I turn and walk off, heading back home.
Once I get home i open the fridge, bring out a Valberry juice box and head to my room, where I chuck my bag on the floor and jump onto my bed, I lay on my stomach as I swing my legs back and forth lightly.
I open my contacts and open xiaos numbers to see he already texted me, my heart speeds up in anticipation.
The cute emo boy texted me! I smile
