Rose sits in the library, sniffling and clutching a handful of tissues. After Damon left last night, the bite had flared up again. Being the caring person she is, Emily stepped in to help Rose. She has always enjoyed looking after others. As a child, she remembered her parents gifting her a doctor's kit, which led her to make Jeremy pretend to be sick so she could "nurse him back to health"—which mostly involved covering him in Band-Aids. Although she once dreamed of becoming a doctor, that ambition now feels out of reach. Still, Emily finds joy in caring for those who are unwell. She asked Damon to fetch some blood for Rose while she tended to the wound.

"I was born in 1450, which makes me 560 years old," Rose suddenly declares.

"It must have been a beautiful time," Emily replies, wringing out a bloody rag.

"So I can die. I've lived long enough," Rose tries to convince herself.

Emily sighs. "You're not going to die. Your vampire blood just takes longer to heal a werewolf bite." Just then, Damon returns with a glass of blood.

"Come on, it's just a little werewolf bite," he says, handing her the glass.

"Just a little? It's fatal for a vampire-werewolf bite."

"Well, according to a legend, which is notoriously unreliable. Drink up," Emily encourages. "Okay, let's take a look. Show me." He examines the bite mark, which has worsened and spread further down her back. He glances at Emily, who wears a sorrowful expression, as if she knows Rose's fate.

"How is it?" Rose asks.

"Definitely... better. Right, Elena?" Damon says, having noticed Elena eavesdropping. She looks taken aback by Rose's injuries.

"Um, it's not bad," Elena says. Emily sighs, rising from her seat beside Rose.

"Where's Stefan?" Damon inquires.

"He left. I need you to talk to him. He's convinced he has to find Isobel, but I think that will upset Elijah." Emily rolls her eyes, knowing Elena doesn't care about Elijah's opinions.

"No can do. I'm siding with Stefan on this one, but if you could play nurse for a bit..."

"It's not necessary," Rose protests.

"It is necessary. Elena is a 'do-gooder.' It's just part of who she is; she can't help herself," Emily stresses the term. She understands that Elena will only take action if there's something in it for her. At the same time, Emily views this as a way to prevent Elena from making a reckless decision. If Rose were to accidentally hurt her, it could turn out to be a win-win situation.
