Laura sat nervously in the uncomfortable plastic chair, waiting for her name to be called out so she could audition, the nerves were overtaking her. All she could do was pluck the bobbin on her wrist and stare at the ground in front of her. This was a big role. She was auditioning for the female lead to a Netflix show. All she knew was that it revolves around a girl falling in love with her best friends brother. Laura usually steered clear of roles that involved romance but a Netflix show could do major things for her career and there was nothing she would stop at to get it, even if it meant breaking her "no romance acting" code.
This code was put in place after laura got her heart broken by a thief.
It was may 2018. Laura, aged 12, was playing the role of aurora for a small production of sleeping beauty put on by her acting class.
The boy playing Prince Charming was someone she had been secretly crushing on but could never admit it, he had this aura around him that attracted attention and Laura refused to accept the fact that she had been inflicted too.
The true resentment started during the previously aforementioned play.
You see the big ending scene of sleeping beauty is when the prince wakes her up by kissing her and then they live happily ever after. But what was supposed to happen in this version was that sleeping beauty is awakened by a true loves hug. (What do you expect they were 12.)
Laura lay there with her eyes closed waiting to be hugged so she could deliver the last line of the play. Impatient, she slightly opened one eye and was met with a face growing closer towards hers.
with little to no warning the boy kissed her, she had no idea what to do, she lay there stiff for what felt like eternity and when it came time to deliver the final line of the play, she was stood there frozen, they both were.
stood there, red and flustered neither of them had any idea what to do.
Eventually the acting teacher came out and brought them off stage saying
"sorry ladies and gentlemen it seems Prince Charming went a little off script"
the audience erupted in laughter and laura felt tears welling in her eyes. She decided right then and there she hated the boy.
'he must've done that to embarrass me in front of a crowd, how could he do that? He STOLE my first kiss from me, he's a dirty thief'She cried to her mam so much that she agreed to let Laura switch to a different acting school and she promised to never let a boy get in the way of her acting abilities.
"Laura h-hixon...pitch?"
'Close enough' she thought.
Laura stood up and the lady smiled at her "this way." The sick feeling in Her stomach returned.'What if they don't think I look the right way'
'What if I get the role but I have to bleach my hair or something'
'What if I have no chemistry with the boy they choose to play my love interest'
All of Laura's thoughts left her head when she stepped into the audition room and saw him...
the thief.
