Chapter 3 Routines

Close to a month had passed, I had to spend Thanksgiving here locked in this cell. My routine is pretty simple lately. I've been trying to get into meditating after I wake up, but it's difficult because of my constant intrusive thoughts. Most of the time I either sit and stare at the wall or ceiling.

My friends have been keeping me company, so that makes life easier here. The pills have been piling up under my bed for some time. I often wonder if I should take them and overdose. I never go through with it though and leave them there.

The nurses usually don't bother me much. Most of the time they will give me my meals and have me take the pills. There is no bathroom here, but nurses often come by with these bags that I can pee in. They usually take them and throw them away.

I've been fairing surprisingly well despite being locked in a small room all day long. The only thing that bothers me is that there is no window. And no one is able to leave their rooms or go outside.

It's getting close to Christmas time, and I really don't want to be locked up here over the holidays.  I often ask the nursing staff if I'm getting close to being released into the general population. But they usually give me the same answer.

Suddenly I hear the familiar sound of footsteps coming from down the hall. The sound of door slots opening and closing.

Nurse: Your breakfast is here

I hand them my dinner Trey and ask them the usual question.

Terrance: Hey... it's getting close to Christmas Eve... Do you know if I'll get out before then?

Nurse: I don't know Terrance, I haven't heard anything yet... Maybe I'll ask Dr. Namez

Terrance: Please... I would really appreciate it

Nurse: Okay, sorry I have to go

The nurse hands me my Trey as they close the door slot.

I sat down on my bed and stared down at my food. A bologna and cheese sandwich and some chips. I took my Excedrin and put the other pills under the mattress. I took a few bites of my sandwich and chased it down with some juice. My appetite is waning again, a lump started to form in my throat as I struggled to swallow. Tears streamed down my face.

Cherry got up from her corner of the room and consoled me. That's been her favorite place, she often sits there and would crochet.

Cherry: It's going to be okay hun

She sits next to me on the bed as she rubs my back.

Terrance: When is this going to end? I'm so tired Cherry, I'm so tired of failing in life. Just when I feel I can't fall any further; life pushes me down even more!

Harry: I didn't think I would end up here again, but here I am... I was free, we were so close to getting out of here!

Harry said as he punched the door.

Cherry: Yea, well we're here Harry; there's nothing we can do about it now

Harry No! You don't understand Cherry! This is our life now!

Cherry: Maybe it's not! We will still get out of here...

Harry: Yea, you keep telling yourself that

Terrance: Can you please just stop

Harry: "sigh" I don't know about y'all, but I'm not spending today being all depressed

Suddenly, Harry grabs a strange looking key and puts the key in a keyhole in the wall.

Cherry: What on earth are you doing Harry!

Terrance: Where did that key come from?

Harry: Were getting out of here, even if I have to take drastic measures!

As Harry turned the key, a doorway began to appear. Light streamed in from the edges of the door. As the door opened, we could see a sunny meadow. Harry went through the doorway coaxing us to go with him.

Harry: Come on y'all, it's so nice out here!

Cherry: Harry!

Terrance: Maybe we should go Cherry

Cherry: Do you think it's safe?

Terrance: It looks okay

Harry: Come on guys!

We both held each other's hand as we both walked through the door, and we entered this beautiful field of flowers. The doorway looked as if it was suspended or standing without support. Harry ran ahead like a carefree kid. Cherry and I walked behind. There were no trees here, just a field of flowers that seemed to stretch on forever into infinity.

Cherry and I both sat down on the ground as Harry tried to get us up.

Harry: Come on, y'all are tired already?

Terrance: Yea sorry, we have to relax for a bit

We started walking again, Cherry and I both struggling to keep up with Harry. In the horizon, we could see what looked to be a city in the distance.

Harry: Huh? Whoa! Look guys, it looks like there's civilization out there!

Terrance: Oh wow...

Cherry: A city, out here?...

Harry: Come on guys, let's go!

After some time, we eventually reach the outskirts of the city. It was an interesting place. The buildings were built in a strange way. The architecture seemed ancient yet alien? The buildings had these really intricate geometric designs. It seems like the buildings themselves were almost made out these elaborate shapes and fractal like geometric patterns. The beings living here looked somewhat human, but they all seemed to be made of light in a way?

We made it to this temple looking place. There we met this light being who went by the name of  жшфѓп they seemed friendly and welcomed us with open arms. Жшфѓп pulled me to the side, they seemed like they had something urgent or important to tell me?

They told me that I was of great importance, and that when my life is over; That a new life would be given to me.

They told me that I have an important role here. That once I'm called upon, I'll be ready to ascend to their world.

For some reason, I could understand them. It was like I had known this being for a very long time. I couldn't possibly understand or comprehend what exactly they meant by that. But I soon awoke in my bed. I was hit by a sudden realization that I was and still am locked up in this cell.
