Lisa had come in a hurry.
With thin strands of hair attached to her temples, she looked around not caring for the tears of sweat that covered her forehead.
She had lost the subway- yet again- as driving in Seoul was not for the weak. It all had lead to her, running for her life five blocks.
With her hot breath running short and condensing against her glasses, she had barely made it in time. Frustrated, she took them off, squinting her eyes to make something of the horde of people drinking overpriced coffee while looking out at the hectic city life.
She spotted Jisoo almost immediately.
Seated quietly by the window, a checkered scarf tucked loosely around her neck, she gazed out at the busy Seoul streets.
She had chosen a table on the corner, away from the noise of the café. Her drink, half-forgotten, sat between her hands.
Their eyes met and, even without two diopters, she recognized that calm, unreadable expression anywhere.
Lisa quickly covered the space between them, her lips turning in a huge grin.
"Jisoo!" She yelled as she slid into the seat across from her.
Jisoo looked up, lips curling slightly. "You're late."
Lisa laughed, still catching her breath. "I lost the subway"
"Of course you did."
Jisoo then proceeded to take a slow sip from her cup and wrinkled her nose.
"This is probably the worst banana milk I've ever drank"
At that, Lisa could only laugh out loud. It felt ecstatic to know that after all that had happened and all the space that separated them, the older girl had not turned sour.
"Why are you drinking it then?" She casually said, still unable to hold back her smile.
"It's still banana milk" the brunette said calmly, a shrug accompanying her words.
Lisa laughter came from the heart, bubbling out in a way that felt foreign. She couldn't remember the last time something as simple as a joke left her feeling light.
"I'm happy to see you" Lisa said, the laughter softening into something quieter. "I missed you, unnie."
Looking at the girl in front of her with sincerity in her eyes, her lips curved up in a sad smile.
"Me too" Jisoo replied, her eyes staring truthfully into Lisa's "we let too much time pass by"
"Yeah, we did" Lisa could only repeat.
Lisa hesitated, hands tightening around the edge of the table. There was so much to say—too much, maybe. The words pressed against her ribs but refused to form.
"You look like you're about to explode" the brunette said, seeming to read the blonde's mind, before taking another sip of her yellow-ish drink. She wrinkled her nose in distaste only to go back for another sip.
"I am, I-I don't know where to begin"
She indeed knew where to begin: from the end.
"How about the reason you wanted to see me?"
"Right, about that." Lisa exhaled, fumbling with the rings on her fingers. "I went to Paris and I-"
Jisoo cut her off before she could continue.
""I figured this was about her" she simply said, letting out a sigh. "Even though I really hoped I was wrong, this time"
Lisa dropped her gaze, letting Jisoo's words hang heavy between them. The café noise seemed distant now, drowned out by the quiet ache in her chest.
