«Mateo»
"What are your thoughts about death?"
"I've already told you millions of times I'm not afraid of dying."
"That's not what I asked, Mateo. I said, what are your thoughts about death?"
I frown, looking at the therapist, confused. "What the fuck you want me to exactly answer?"
"Just that, your thoughts of it."
"What I think about it as.., a person or something?"
"Yes."
"Well..." I shrug, "I'd said it is someone.., unimportant."
"You don't care about death?"
"I don't."
"But it did seem important to you when it took who you loved, Mateo."
I frown again, looking at her, she knows damn well it fucking pisses me off when she talks about that specific damn subject. "I don't fucking care about it as long as it has to do with me, if you fucking wanted me to talk about what I think of it referring to my family then that's what you should have fucking asked."
"I asked exactly what I wanted to know, Mateo."
I roll my eyes. I hate this psychological shit full of crap.
"So?" I say. "What's your super discover now that you had my answer?"
"I think you see death in the most selfish possible way" She says, and shrugs, writing something down. "You lost those you feared losing in the past, now you have nothing else to be afraid of. If death comes for anyone you know, you wouldn't care. You suffered what you had to suffer."
"What the fuck are you talking about?"
"What you think I'm talking about?"
"I think you're fucking insinuating I'm a jerk who doesn't care about anything but me."
"I mean, that's how you're showing me you are. Why else would you talk about death like that?"
"Things for me are as easy as if death comes for me, I wouldn't give a shit, but it is not fucking touching anyone else in front of me ever again."
"Oh yeah? So why you didn't say that before? Why not to mention that person you're talking about right now? I thought she was important to you if we talk about dying."
Ok, this woman's wearing out my damn patience faster than usual.
"Don't you fucking dare say Kailani is not important to me."
"No no, I know she is. However, you said death is someone unimportant, so she must be too if it comes to you losing her."
"I never said that."
"That's how I heard it."
"Then find a fucking therapist to help you too, you're being unreasonable."
"You don't even know what's reasonable, Mateo."
Fine, that's it.
That's fucking it, this session's over.
I stand up from this bed of shit, and I swear to God right fucking after I took the first step, I force myself to stop, for nothing else but having heard her say that damn name.
"You're so afraid of death you don't want it to take Kailani. And you don't care enough if it's about you. You'd place your life so you never have to lose her. That is not how someone who see death unimportant would act."
