"No other sadness in the world would do. You know I left a part of me back in New York?"

– Taylor Swift

WE did not get to the classroom on time, Ivan and I got there almost immediately after the doors closed. For home room. Ms.Sawyer opened the door.

'Mr.Byrne? Do my eyes deceive me?'

'Oh no Ms.Sawyer, It's all Gracie's fault,' Ivan looked at me before sitting down.

'I see.. Ms.Walker,' she looked over at me. 'You're late, but you got Mr.Byrne here before lunch.'

A moment passed.

'I'm sorry, I won't let it happen again,' I wasn't usually late. Not unless I intended to be.

'No me neither, Ms,' Ivan said, grinning.

She just stared at him before nodding at me and we sat down.

Ms.Sawyer was basically the only teacher that cared. I don't know if she just did because if she had to, or if she really cared about all of our problems. Either way she listened to us.

'So as I was saying before being interrupted..' she looked over at me and Ivan. 'We have two new students coming here next week.'

Everyone started looking at each other. It wasn't often a new student came to our little town, let alone two.

I looked over at Indie, sitting next to Leora Whilmen, the most artsy person out of any of my friends. Well, the most artsy person out of anyone I knew. With her dark skin and her beautiful curls, she was the kind of girl that everyone fell in love with, even if just a tiny bit. They were giggling about something, probably romanticizing about the new students, as if Indie wasn't totally head over heels for Sai.

'Oh, quiet down,' she told them. 'You'll have plenty of time to spread the news about the new students, outside my classroom.'

'But Ms, we're actually talking about Gracie's dad.' Indie said grinning, looking over at me.

I just stared back at her in shock.

Sure, that didn't sound like anything special. But when your dad is young and apparently "attractive" (physically hurt me to say that) they talk about him. And Indie particularly enjoyed bringing it up at every moment she could. But just this moment didn't really seem appropriate, could just be me though.

Ms.Sawyer sighed and turned to look at Inez Reids. She sat in front of me and was very obviously falling asleep. Maybe there were two girls staring at the football team this morning, that's not creepy at all!

'Ms.Reids, as student council president I trust you to make them feel welcomed.'

I kicked her chair, waking her up.

'Hey!' Inez exclaimed, turning to face me. I pointed at Ms.Sawyer and she slowly turned back. Seeing her teacher staring at her.

'Ms.Reids? You got better things to do?'

'What?' she asked. 'Oh, no? Sure, new students.'

'Okay, thank you. I'll wish the new students good luck.' Ms.Sawyer nodded at her. 'Can you stay after class for a minute, please Ms.Reids?'

Inez nodded and sunk in her seat, a little.

We waited outside for her, me, Indie, Leora and Ivan. When she came out we all crowded her.
