The overwhelming urge to pee forced Danny out of his own slumber. He rolled over, feeling the dead weight of Sam unmoving as his own body weight shifted the bed, the pillows, and tried to shut his eyes tighter against his own body's needs. But a grating, angry headache also prompted him to get up and hunt for some Advil or something in addition to relieving himself, so after a few more seconds of trying to fight it, he groaned and pulled himself out of Sam's bed.

Through slightly bleary eyes, Danny looked at his boyfriend still sleeping hard, sprawled out with most of his upper body free of any sheet or comforter, then at the shimmering morning light outside. During the springtime, it was often hard for Danny to tell what time it really was just by looking–it could have been nearly noon for all he knew. But looking at his phone as he stumbled to the bathroom revealed it was just a few minutes past ten. In the bathroom, as he searched for and successfully found some Advil and aspirin, he debated going back to bed, leaning into that idea until he opened the door and heard movement downstairs.

Josh? Or Jake? Danny wasn't sure just from the slight clanging of dishes and the distant whirring of the new espresso machine that the twins had gotten for their birthday from their parents, something Danny had no doubt Sam would be using even more than them. If it was Josh, he felt inclined to go down and talk with him–Josh didn't seem to have any idea about his vampirism, so he was inherently a bit of a comforting presence even if he did smell sugary sweet and tempting. But if it was Jake, Danny thought, lingering at the top of the stairs, he wasn't sure he was in the right headspace to deal with another heart-pounding conversation.

Going back to bed was smarter. Sam would want that too, Danny was sure. So he returned to the slightly sweaty but reassuring, comforting bedsheets and Sam's even more comforting body. Sitting up against the headboard, he ate a couple handfuls of those leftover chips and washed it down with more water before he laid back down, rolling onto his side to look at Sam's starfished form. Nothing, not even previously throwing up and his current very undignified sleep pose, messy hair and half-smushed face, could make Sam unappealing to Danny. He was beautiful even at his most disheveled; alluring no matter how much his natural scent was masked by smoke, alcohol and sweat.

Danny moved in closer, laying one leg over Sam's while he pressed his face into the waves of long dark hair, falling asleep so quickly it wasn't even like he'd ever been awake to begin with.

Sam awoke in basically the same fashion–with a pounding headache and a dire need to get to the bathroom. He groaned softly as he swung his legs over the bed, pausing for a moment to cradle his throbbing forehead. A quick glance behind himself revealed Danny still asleep, but the bag of chips was on his other side. He must have gotten up at some point. Sam grabbed the bag on his way out of his room, stuffing some in his mouth as he padded down the hall to the bathroom, ignoring the seemingly too-loud conversation between the twins from downstairs.

Sam definitely had gotten too drunk last night, no question. And it was true that the escalation was primarily instigated by that silly drinking game, but it was also true that Danny hadn't been there, and that got Sam thinking. Feeling more than thinking, actually, which was sometimes the trouble with him. He had caught a glimpse of Danny and Jake back there on the deck smoking together–again–and, in the moment, gone from angry to hurt to "I don't give a fuck" in the few seconds it took him to pour himself another shot. By the end of the drinking game, and the end of the night, he'd pretty much forgotten what he'd seen in the backyard. But now, in the light of day, he remembered and he felt that wave of turbulent emotion all over again.
