Run Away!

Chapter Three: Run Away!

Anju's POV:

I remember very little about my parents before I came to the Hyakuya orphanage. But I do remember I woman's voice. Her soft voice would sing to me sweet lullabies, tell me bed time stories and whenever I cried she would wipe my tears and say everything would be better eventually. Her face is what I don't remember well, if I close my eyes and try hard enough I could see a fragment of a smile, and that would be enough to calm me. Thinking of this, a conversation comes to mind.

I was in my room playing with my toys. It was the day of my third birthday and the guest had yet to arrive. There was a knock on my door and a little boy entered my room saying that mommy wanted us outside with daddy. After saying that he left in a sprint, I followed to see daddy finishing the decorations in the backyard.

While we waited the little boy and I ran around playing tag to pass the time while my daddy laughed watching us play. In one of the rounds of the game I had fallen and blamed the little boy. I cried when I saw my bleeding knee, the pain causing me to stay on the ground. My mommy had carried me inside, cleaned the wound and patched me up. She smiled warmly at me and what she said I will never forget "Anju honey, I know that sometimes you will get hurt and all you will want to do is cry and do nothing. But remember that with all that pain you'll become a strong big girl in the future!" At the time I didn't get what she meant so I replied with a simple "Okay!" but now I get it clearly.

"anju"

My mother taught me to be strong.

"Anju"

To accept the pain that comes my way.

 "Anju!"

And to never give up no matter what happens.

 "ANJU!"

I feel someone shake my shoulder, I hear a desperate voice call my name. An unbearable pain shoots up my arm, my eyes fly open as I look at my surroundings and land on the relieved face of my dear friend Yuu. I remember what happened: the vampire city, escaping, staying behind, following them, being tricked by a noble and being held at gun point by Mika...

I try to sit up but pain flares up on my left arm as I use it to push myself up, wincing in pain I manage to sit. Yuu kneels in front of me with a relieved smile and looks back "She's awake!" that's when I notice Mika pointing the gun at the same vampire that tried to make him kill me. Mika turns around and runs up to me with tears in his eyes "I'm sorry, so so very sorry! I didn't want to kill you but I had to make him think that. Does your arm hurt too badly? I tried not to injure too much!" I stop him by placing my good hand on his shoulder. "It's alright. I knew you wouldn't kill, it's just not you." I reassure him.

Yuu helps me stand and I thank him with a nod as we stare back at where the vampire is staring at us with a very amused expression. My arm doesn't stop bleeding, Yuu notices and rips a part from his shirt and raps it tightly on where I was shot. I smile thankfully but the smile quickly fades away when I see the vampire stand in front of a terrified Akane. When I look around I notice we are all that's left. As I'm about to scream her name the noble already slit her throat, I cover my mouth in surprise as tears threaten to spill, Mika clenches his fist his hair covering his eyes and Yuu growling "You bastard!", everyone dead leaving the three of us.

Mika turns to us with a determined expression, "Yuu-chan, Anju-chan I want you both to get out of here and survive."

With that said he runs off gun in hand to attack the vampire, and all I do is stare in pure shock. The battle didn't last long but the instant that the vampire stabs Mika Yuu grabs the fallen gun, dodges his attack and shoots him in the head saying "Die". The vampire falls motionless.
