After the initial shock of realizing this book had actually working spells, I freaked out a bit.
"Oh my Mississippi!"
I felt a shiver go up my spine and my fur was still frizzled from watching the book float. I then practiced with the book a bit more before successfully bringing the bottle to me with ease.
"This is amazing! I could do so much stuff with this!"
I then calmed my self down.
"I shouldn't tell anyone or have someone find out about how I'm learning actual magic until I actually got a handle on this and so I have a good enough handle on this to keep people from easily stealing this from me."
I then decided to lift a crate with a lot of heavy items in it with this power I now had. I didn't feel any strain in my hands or anything as I lifted it up and moved it side to side. I then put it down. This was really tiring for some reason. I decided to consult the book a bit to find out why.
"Energy in your body can be converted into mana which is used to make these spells work. Interesting. The more you use mana, the less you'll have to use over time. Wow. So it's like a muscle."
'Kind of like an rpg' A sigh.
"Gah! Who said that!" I looked around quickly.
"I have magic, so don't try to fuck with me!"
'Wait. You can hear me?"
"Um, yeah?"
'Look down at your shadow then.'
I did as the voice instructed, and I could see some blue eyes on my shadow. No. They belonged to my shadow. They were nothing more then some blue ovals though.
"What the..."
'Haha! So you can see me!'
"Um, yeah."
I moved around a bit to make sure this was my shadow, and it moved along with me.
'Yeah. I kind of have to move wherever you move and such.'
"Weird. So, what are you?"
'Isn't it clear? I'm the voices in your head. A combination of pretty much all the bad stuff in you turned into a some sort of entity. We're called boings. We mostly can't be seen by people unless they start to tap into their true potential.'
"That sounds both exciting and pretty stupid at the same time."
'Yeah. Kind of stupid sounding like it's from a kid's cartoon.'
"You mean that stuff in the cinemas?"
'Oh yeah. Forgot you're a dumb fuck from the earlier nineteen hundreds.'
"Wait wait wait wait wait. You know stuff from the future?"
'Yeah. Going to shut up now. Can't have the dpc on both of our asses for breaking this timeline a bit.'
"Um, alright. Guessing you can't explain much about the dpc."
'All I'll say about them is that they're the reason us boings exist, and caused factions like Glitch, Virus, the DCI, and a lot of cults to arise.'
"Um. Okay then."
I closed the book and then the eyes and voice disappeared. I open it again, and then he sighed in relief.
'Thought for a second you couldn't see or hear me anymore. Guess you're not powerful enough to see me without the power of that, um, that book.'
"Guess so." I yawned a bit.
'I can feel that you're tired.'
"That sounds a bit weird, but yeah. Guess doing this simple spell took it out of me"
'You should go back to your car to sleep, and don't mention me, or your new powers to anyone. We can't have anyone stealing our book.'
"Wow. Am I that obsessed with the book?"
'Yes.'
"That was brutally honest, but okay then."
I headed out of the room, and everyone seemed to immediately noticed my tiredness. Ivy came up and said,
"You seem tired all of a sudden. Is there something wrong? Are you sick?"
"I'm alright. Just..." I yawned. "Tired."
"Well you should probably rest then."
"Yeah. Was heading back to my car to sleep now."
"Yeah. We'll see you later Rocky."
I left and gave a short wave to everyone before making my way upstairs. I had noticed though that the boing thing I had in my shadow was looking intently at miss M. Um, Mitzi I mean. Nonetheless, I got into my car parked in an alley nearby and laid down.
"Why were you looking at Mitzi the entire time?"
'I'm made up of your desires, wants, and lusts. Also all of your evil natures. I long for what you long for. I can just look at what I want easier without getting weird looks since I'm invisible to everyone but two people so far.'
"Wait. Two?"
'Oops. Let that slip. I won't say who else can see me because they're affiliated with the DPC.'
"The DPC can't be that bad, right?"
'Oh they are the definition of power. You know god? The headmaster of the DPC could fuck his bitch ass up like he was punching some glass. He could destroy whole worlds at a whim. We're just lucky he's mostly good. Anyone that knows of the DPC though has to go in his eyes. Mostly into the monster dimensions he's made by dumping his invention's byproducts into zero dimensions.'
"Um, zero dimensions?"
Sighs. 'Might as well explain it since I've said so much already. The zero dimensions are dimensions with nothing but an infinite flat floor with gravity.'
"Um, alright."
'Now get some sleep. You have a lot of work ahead of you if you want to master the grimoire.'
"Is that what this book is called?"
'Yup. Now sleep.'
I suddenly became very very tired when he said that. Seems he could control some parts of me. I quickly fell asleep though. That's when I had magic sickness.
