from the day he was born, ryder was truly loved by his parents who had tried for years to have a child. after many rounds of IVF and trying different methods, amanda finally fell pregnant and both her and jeremy couldn't have been happier. ryder was born premature at thirty five weeks and spent the first couple weeks of his life in the NICU, being watched over and supported until he was well enough to go home, so his parents naturally became quite cautious when it came to him. although, the hobby he acquired when he was ten was enough to send his mother into a panic attack. his dad introduced him into the world of ice hockey at the age of ten and ryder immediately loved it. he was a natural. his dad was always supporting him— sitting in the stands at every game, cheering him on, practicing with him in the backyard. ryder and his dad were always super close which is why his dad's death hit him so hard. jeremy passed away when ryder was fourteen due to an undetected tumour on his brain. he was there one day and gone the next and that stuck with ryder for years. he spent most of his time away from the ice and hiding in his bedroom until his mom pushed him to get back out there and to do what his dad wanted him to do; so he worked hard and bagged himself a spot at the best hockey program in the country.
