Tuesday, 29th January
I'm embarrassed and ashamed that I've forgotten about my friend's birthday. It wasn't until I was about to doze off to sleep until I remembered his birthday, which I thought was on the 27th.
Mark Saw and I had a peculiar relationship. We never hung around at school, and we rarely spoke since last October. We didn't exactly lose touch with each other, it's just that there weren't any special topics between us, except Spider Man.
I remember it was around the time when I was in Form 2. He and this girl had a huge argument (it was awfully petty and childish in my opinion). He called her "死妈", which literally translates to "dead mom". There girl was extremely pissed off, and it was a sentitive topic for her since she lost her mother at a young age. I don't blame her, and I don't entirely blame Mark either. What he said was out of line, sure, and I hated it when he used that word. But the girl, Aggie, uses harsh words to people too, talking about things behind their backs when she does the same thing.
It was only after Aggie and I made a complaint to the discipline teacher when Mark started texting me. I vaguely remember our conversation, but I do remember him venting to me, with me giving him some (hopefully helpful) advice, and he would say that I'm just too naive. Naive? No, I never was. Perhaps I portray myself as a naive and pure person to the eyes of people, but there's always a hidden side to every person.
Though we have striking differences, we eventually found something in common: Spider-Man. He was Gwen-crazy, and I was always a DC fan. Thankfully, I binge watched the animated Spider-Man series during the pandemic to know what he was talking about. I remember us going crazy when Spider-Man: Across The Spider Verse came out, good times. Come to think of it, I guess I really was a major Spider-Man fan at some point.
never really cared about Mark at first, and I've always thought of him as the class clown. I guess I warmed up to him in time. Even though he gives odd advice at times and has a weird sense of humor, he was with me through good times and bad. And for that, I'm glad he entered my life.
To think that I would forget his birthday.
Funnily enough, I got the dates wrong. His birthday is actually on the 29th. I gave him a handmade card last year, and I wanted to impress him by making an even extravagant one. I asked him not too long ago what he would like this year, and he said he wouldn't mind anything. The only condition from him was: as long as it's from the heart.
He's really excited for his new Apple Watch to arrive, and I'm really happy for him. To top it all, he was cramming up to finish the additional mathematics homework our tuition teacher assigned for us. I feel bad for him. But honestly, I feel bad for myself too as I have a stack to finish.

Dedicated to Mark.
Happy birthday. Just make sure not to eat McD too often, it's bad for your health.
