Chapter 26: "I really don't have a choice, do I?"

"Simple. With Tristan."

I have no idea if Chase said that to tease us, or if he has been living with us the past year. Maybe an alien abducted him and is now using his body to complete its secret mission here on earth. I think it's the later because no one in the right mind would suggest that Tristan and I to stay in the same house together.

Again.

"That could work," Jordan nods in agreement with his friend. "It's not like you've never lived together before." he shrugs like it's no big deal.

"And Hailey would be safe closer to Tristan." Chase continues, forgetting all about the tension between Tristan and I.

Are they insane?!

"And they'd be like a tag team," Jordan is suddenly more excited about the idea. "They could have each other's backs like how it was in the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith!"

I am tempted to shut someone up with a fist.

"Exactly!" Chase mirrors Jordan's excitement. "They could even--"

"Would you two shut up now?!" Tristan cuts their daydreams short, and wears a murderous look on his face.

Thank you!

"Oh!" Both Jordan and Chase stare at me and Tristan, and it's only then they realize their stupid suggestion. "Sorry." They simultaneously apologize guiltily.

Meanwhile, Henry number two wears a huge grin, his shoulders are shaking and his eyes are tearing up, indicating just how much all of this is funny for him to watch.

Is this guy going to help us by just watching?

"I like you lot," he wipes a tear away. "Okay, but back-" he takes a deep calming breath. "-to business." He stands up from his chair to join us who are standing. "We do need to get Hailey a safe place to stay for the time being. I know Luther very well. I've worked with him before and when someone refuses his offers, he tends to be clingy to the point where he'd harm anyone in his way." He explains.

"Putting my life in danger is called 'clingy'?" I ask in disbelief. "And what do you mean you worked with him?"

"Well, not exactly worked," he pauses to think of an appropriate answer. "More like he's my step brother." He states in a way that he is ashamed of their relation.

Step brother?!

"Since when?! Jordan coughs out the question, a rather dumb question on my side, but nonetheless with same amount of bewilderment and shock as Chase and I.

Not surprised that Tristan is nonchalant about this.

"Since my mom married his father?" Henry number two raises an eyebrow at Jordan's ridiculous question, and his answer comes out as a confused question.

"Are you kidding me?!" I exclaim due the absurdity of all of this. "Why and how is everyone I encounter linked to the devil himself? What's next, huh?" I dramatically throw my hands around and the boys stare at me with wide eyes as if I threaten their existence. "Next thing I'm going to randomly find a pet goat only to find out that it's Luther's freakin cousin!"

"She's sane, right?" Henry number 2 asked Tristan, like my ears are deaf to his voice, and juts out his thumb to point to me.

"Yeah."

"Yeah."

"Sometimes." Leave it to Jordan to sigh his own death wish.

"I can hear you!" I shout at them like a mad woman. "And yes, Henry number two, I--"
