☾☽

You must be in hell...

In the mirror, your 13 year old self stared back at you.

Your reflection was wide-eyed, mouth slightly agape, taking in the scene with disbelief.

"Oh my god," you muttered, rushing up to the mirror in front of you. You reached out, half expecting your hand to pass through the glass, but instead, your fingers met the cool, smooth surface.

Your room was a time capsule. The pink walls, once so vibrant, seemed to glow under the soft light of the ceiling fixture. The familiar scent of powdery Crush perfume lingered in the corner, mingling with the faint mustiness of old PS2 video game cases stacked against the wall. Your eyes fell on the wooden bunk beds, still standing, and the messy heap of cheetah-patterned throws that you used to adore. The Converse sneakers, scuffed and worn, were right where you'd left them, half-hidden under the bed.

A loud knock snapped you out of your daze, your eyes darting to the dark oak door. "Hey, you done in there? You're gonna be late for school," Ken's voice called through, slightly muffled but unmistakable.

It took a few seconds for you to gather yourself. With a deep breath, you turned from the mirror and crossed the room, feeling the rough texture of the carpet beneath your feet. You opened the door, and there stood Ken, his face as bright and animated as ever.

Then your gaze shifted downward, and there was Mikey, his eyes sparkling with that same mischievous glint you remembered. Relief surged through you, and before you could stop yourself, you lunged forward, wrapping your arms around Mikey's small frame.

"You idiot!" you whispered fiercely, clutching him tightly, unwilling to let go.

"What'd he do this time?" Ken asked, surprise coloring his voice. "Did I forget to bring you some chocolate Taiyaki?" Mikey's voice was full of confusion, his brows furrowed as he tried to understand your sudden affection.

You pulled back, just enough to meet Mikey's eyes. "Yes, yes you did," you said, trying to keep your voice steady.

If a bit of free chocolate Taiyaki was the price for this surreal moment, you were willing to play along. As you walked past both of them, you instinctively navigated the familiar back rooms of the house where you and Ken had grown up.

A wave of nostalgia washed over you, the kind that made your heart ache with both joy and sadness. The hallway was cluttered with old boxes, their contents spilling out in a chaotic array of childhood memories. The walls were lined with framed photographs, each one a snapshot of happier, simpler times. The scent of Crush perfume still lingered, a ghostly reminder of the past, while the mustiness of old books and forgotten trinkets added a layer of melancholia to the air.
