Yuuji sits on a medical bed with a blank expression, his eyes lifeless as he stares down at the slightly dirty flooring. He now has a healed scar that goes diagonal across his face and a smaller healed scar around his lips.
The scars are just another reminder of his constant failure.
The only sound heard in the background is nothing but minal movement, a waiting game for newly injured sorcerers to come seek help. Though Yuuji isn't able to see the Shoko with his back turned to her, he can practically hear the stress in her movements even through the static in his ears.
The room remains silent with tension in the air as both Shoko and Yuuji mentally debate if they should speak first.
Yuuji knows that Shoko isn't much of a talker unless it's regarding her work, and so he decides to be the one to speak up first.
"So you too, huh?"
The silence is unbearably suffocating until Shoko finally finds her voice to answer the cherry blossom haired teenager.
"Me too." Shoko speaks with a monotonous tone, but deep down, Yuuji knows that she is coming from a place of empathy and comfort towards his situation.
They both lost someone. A friend. For Yuuji, he lost Kugisaki. For Shoko, she lost Suguru.
When Yuuji was dead and training to get his cursed energy under control by watching movies and getting punched by a cursed puppet he had come across a photo of his sensei's teenage years when he was trying to make a trip to the bathroom. A male with black hair that was tied up into a bun with a teasing smile, an albino haired male with a carefree grin with his arm over the black haired males shoulder, and a brown haired female that had a beauty mark near her left eye and wore a soft smile with eyes twinkling in affection for the other two. Yuuji had been able to immediately tell that the albino haired male was Gojo and that the brown haired female was Shoko, but he had no clue who the raven haired male was.
When Gojo had caught Yuuji staring at the photo for who knows how long, he explained that the raven haired male's name was Suguru, his one and only, and his best friend. but an unfortunate situation had occurred, so Suguru was no longer among the living.
Or so they thought.
When Yuuji had seen the raven haired male with stitches along his forehead with the prism realm in his grasp, Yuuji had immediately thought back to the photo. He's always been able to recognize someone despite the changes in their appearance.
Which made things confusing because why had his sensei said that his best friend was no longer among the living but then he was trapped inside the prism realm right in the palm of Suguru himself just a couple of months after?
Yuuji slowly let himself come back to reality as he blinked at the gray tiles of the medical office, worn with age.
"Does it ever get better?" He softly asks as he finally turns his head to Shoko.
Shoko doesn't take long to reply compared to the first time.
"It sticks with you for the rest of your life." She answers, her tired and stressed eyes meeting Yuuji's lifeless looking eyes.
"...I see." Yuuji murmurs and leaves the conversation at that as he gazes back down at the floor.
(A/N: I wrote this while sleep deprived).
