First Kiss

I had known Choso for years. Despite our friendship being timid and limited by invisible boundaries we both put unconsciously, I really enjoyed his company.

I might have even caught some feelings.

We hung out a lot, even if it was filled with silence most of the time. And when I manage to make him laugh, the world feels like a better place.

He's not really talkative, but when he is, my heart can not contain its excitement.

Today is one of those lucky days.

We ran into each other on campus and decided to walk for a while.

"I got an A on my assignment." He says after some moments of silence. "We had to animate a short clip, and I drew us."

My neck snapped towards him. Us.

"What were we doing?" I ask, so many emotions and thoughts building up inside me. Why? What was it about? Does it mean anything?

"Walking," He shrugged. "Muted talking."

He slowed down his pace as I hummed in response.

"We did this," He grabs my hand gently and interwines our fingers, his eyes not leaving mine for a second.

My heart hammers in my chest.

"That's funny. Why'd you animate that?" I try to act cool, not attempting to take my hand back at all. We had stopped walking, and he'd turned towards me.

Choso smiles softly. "Because I've been thinking about it for a while. A long while."

An audible gulp echoes along with the chirping birds.

He chuckles. "It's easy making you flustered."

"Pretty easy if you suddenly hold my hand and start acting weird."

"I didn't know holding your hand would have such an effect." He laughs, and I can't help but smile.

His eyes twinkle, staring deeply into mine. He comes closer, raising his hand to my cheek and caressing it with the back of his finger.

"I wonder what effect this has." His voice dips, and I feel it reverberate through my bones, melting my insides.

Choso leans in, eyes travelling from mine to my lips and back again. My breath hitches.

"Can I kiss you?" He whispers against my lips, and I respond with closing the gap between us. His lips are soft against mine, slow and gentle.

Everything is quiet. Even the butterflies that were exploding in my stomach a few moments ago stopped to feel every bit of this moment.

I only feel him, his lips and his hands on my cheeks.

We break apart enough to look into each other's eyes.

"I know it's sudden, but I really like you." He confesses.

My smile widens. "I really like you, too."

"Really? Since when?!"

I shrug. "I can't recall."

He rests his forehead on mine. "I can."

I yank my head backwards. "Really? When?"

"I'll tell you later." He grins and holds my hand before it hits his shoulder. "I don't wanna have all our special moments in one place."

Choso keeps my hand in his and pulls me closer beside him as we continue walking, and all I can think of is that kiss. I let him guide me because my head's in the clouds, and I don't mind going anywhere as long as it's by his side.
