David is not a shepard anymore, he became a warrior of Israel ever since he deafeted Goliath.
At that time King Saul was the ruler of Israel but not a good king. King Saul had 2 dughters Meerabe and Michal. He also jad his oldest son Jonathan who became David's BFF.
King Saul treated David like a son ever since David deafeted Goliath the Giant. Jonathan was so inspired by David that he treated him like a brother. King Saul's youngest daughter Michal had a deep crush on David and always wanted to marry him.
IN FACT: King Saul promised David 4 years ago that if David wins against Goliath he can marry his oldest daughter Meerabe. But David refused because he had promised Ahinoam that he will not marry anyone else. So because David refused King Saul decided to give Meerabe to marry someone else.
2 MONTHS PAST
When David and the rest of the soldiers came back to Israel from the war, Many people especially young womans would sing a song to David about how many people he killed compared to King Saul. The song is like:

Many people loved David more than King Saul because David was a greatest soldier of Israel.
This made King Saul very jealous that made him attempt killing David 3 times but always failed and would tell David he was just joking and playing with him.
Michal was a snobby bratty young woman around the age of 17-19 years old and David was 21-23 years old. One day she went to her father's room in the palace and said,:
