Chapter Five
Naledi Mokoena
Wednesday
3:45PM

I walk up the stairs as I came to check on ouma again before my two last examinations and since Snethemba wants nothing to do with me since her brother is still telling her mother whenever me and her make contact so I decided to just keep my distance.

I see Nathan on the porch and swing the chair slowly as he seems to be reading something important.

"Hey."I say and try to read what it says and he quickly covers it.

"Hi. It's just divorce papers."I widen my eyes and then nod my head. It's not like I wanted to know but I guess it's good he told me.

He stares at me before looking away."Sorry for being nosy."

"It doesn't matter. I honestly need someone to just listen to me now since even my brother is not willing to listen to me."

I sigh and sit down next to him."Okay, let it out,I'm listening."

"I think I should give my ex wife the house but fight for full custody of her daughter."

"Woah woah, wait a damn minute."I say causing him to laugh."I know it's wrong."

"Take the house and at least share the custody of the child with her."

"Thing is I don't want the house because it's just holds bad memories of our live together."He says and I look at him with narrow eyes."I am not ready yet to talk about that."

I look at him and I feel like there is more than what meets the eye."And the child?"

"She is not mine by blood but I take her as my own. I basically raised her with my ex wife."Nathan explains and she nods her head.

"Why full custody?"I ask because I am really curious about this whole story and how it will turn around.

"She had problems of her own, substance abuse was the really issue."He says, causing me to widen my eyes and I just don't know want to say.

NB: I will writing this story in third person point of view because of how I am used to it and first person is now a bit hard to write in 😂....back to the story

"Hectic- I do not think it is my place to give advice."She says and he chuckles.

"Just tell me the truth,Naledi."Nathan says and Naledi sighs, looking down before taking a deep breath."I will take it."

"I will say what I said and that is share the custody of the child while the house can either be sold or rented out- make a BNB or something else with it. Do not sell it."She says and Nathan nods his head before chuckling.

"Thank you,I needed to hear that and ouma is up if you want to talk to her."Nathan says and Naledi smiles before getting up.

"I came here for her."Naledi holds the door handle before looking at Nathan, who just keeps staring at her and then smiles, seeing he is caught staring.

Naledi chuckles before opening the door, walking in and going to find ouma.

"Ouma."She says, going to Mrs van der Berg on is seated on a one seater sofa while she watches television."Hello, are you okay?"

"I am and you,how are your examinations going?"She asks and Naledi takes a seat on the one seater sofa.

"I am okay but examinations are so stressful. Atleast I have a few last ones and then I have to wait for the results."Naledi explains before resting her head on Mrs van der Berg's shoulder and watches television with her."What about you?Have you eaten?"

"I have. I have just been thinking about life a lot. Am I happy with how my life turned out? A bit but I know majority of it was a big part of God's plan."She explains and Naledi lifts her head and looks at Lindsay.

"I am sure you did a good job raising the boys. I saw who I believe is your first born at the party."Naledi says and Lindsay smiles."I know I don't remember much of my early childhood but I can just tell from how they both carry themselves, you did a good job raising them."

Lindsay looks at Naledi and smiles."Thank you,Naledi."She says and Naledi smiles back."I did not think I did a good job,I thought perhaps I somehow failed them. I was raised in a broken household, rich and famous father who had everything-a beautiful home, good job, beautiful wife and three children."

"He did not feel like that was enough so he went outside-had children elsewhere and in our community they didn't allow that, people found out about it and some parents did not allow their children to play with us. The cheating did not only affect the my mom but also my mindset and my sister's."

"I did not expect any good from a man but luckily Nathan and Stephan's father was a patient and loving man. I miss him everyday. He was a man of true intrigue and character."Lindsay explains and Naledi listens to her.

The door opens and closes before footsteps are heard."Oh,what a wonderful way to find you here."Naledi and Lindsay lift their heads and see Lerato and Stephan standing by the entrance of the living room.

Naledi gets up and hugs Lerato."You are back."Naledi says,Lerato smiles and hugs her tightly.

"I am."Lerato backs away from the hug and walks to Lindsay."So what she is conversation about."

"Ugh,my life stories."Lindsay says and Lerato smiles while Stephan greets Naledi and they start their own conversation.

"And you interrupted it."Naledi says, sitting down next to Lindsay and looks at Lerato.

"Well,I came to check on Nkosazane."She says, removing her deadlocks from her face and Naledi smiles.

"Well, ouma, from the story I heard, what happened to your mother?"

Lindsay chuckles before the men join the three ladies in the living room and listen to the conversation."Well after the divorce,of course mom took us to our grandparents and we lived there until we completed high school and got university opportunities."

"I have more questions."Naledi says and Lindsay smiles."So,was your father still supporting you and your siblings?"

"From what I hear,he just loved his bottle too much and could not even make sure to support his own children. I did not have a relationship with him until it was his funeral, which on its own was hectic. Stephan and Nathan does not even know a love of a grandfather, crazy."Lindsay says and Naledi hugs her tightly.

"Curiosity killed a cat Naledi."Nathan says and Naledi looks at him.

"Leave the child alone, she was just making conversation."Lindsay says,Naledi tears a piece of tissue and wipes her eyes."I am not crying,Naledi."

"Oh."

"It is sad mom and I understand Naledi's thoughts and actions."Stephan says and Naledi looks at Lindsay, who looks at Naledi and smiles a bit."I was told the story three times and it just makes me appreciate mom more."

"Definitely."Nathan says, causing Lerato to smile as she takes videos of Naledi and Lindsay.

"Dinner is ready."The helper says,Nathan and Stephan get up before Lerato ends the video.

Naledi listens to Lerato and Lindsay who are now talking about the memories they had working together.
