"Ransom, can you hear me?" I felt someone's hands hitting my cheek softly. I frowned as my entire body ached.
"Ah, what the hell" My neck and arms were burning as it was slowly spreading to my legs. Then the adrenaline finally kicked in and my eyes shot open. I was expecting Killian or his army of soldiers so my first instinct was to grab onto his collar and grab it tightly.
I stood up and pushed the person against the wall. They kept kicking "Ransom" My name left their lips with a high pitch as they couldn't get any air. I tried to calm myself down and it was only then that I saw whose throat I was pinching.
"Howard?" I let him go and he gasped for air as soon as my hand left his neck. "What the hell happened?" Howard was coughing for air. I grabbed my head as it started pounding. I must've hit it. Howard looked up at me, his hand still lying on his chest.
"You don't remember?" His voice was still tight and hoarse. My brain felt like it caught on fire as I finally took the time to look at him and the room properly. I was in the lab but it looked like no one had been here for ages.
"What year are we in?" I looked at him, taking a few steps closer to him. A few steps away from him, I stuck out my hand grabbing his. Howard's hair wasn't the black hair I was used to anymore. It was a bright grey. Along with his mustache. Both of my hands were on his cheeks.
"Ransom, it's 1960" I started laughing in disbelief. What the hell happened? "Also what on earth are you wearing?" He placed his index finger under my chin.
"Clothing that one would wear in 2012," I said his eyes went wide but a small smile crept on his face.
"The time machine worked?" I smiled back and nodded. He laughed loudly as he grabbed me into a hug and twisted me around. "It worked!" he laughed. I wasn't that amused, however. Howard put me back down.
"What happened 13 years ago, Howard?" I looked for a chair and I grabbed it and sat down. I grabbed my head in my hands as it started pounding again. He shifted uncomfortably. He was probably still guilt-riddled from what he did so many years ago.
He went and also grabbed a chair. He sat down with a grunt As he opened his suit jacket. He folded one leg over the other. "We were trying out the timemachine and I don't know what happened but the lights went out and before I could do Anything about it you were gone" He sighed.
"What happened to you?" He asked. I bit the inside of my cheeks and smiled uncomfortably.
"I'm not sure how much I can tell you" I looked amused as Howard looked disappointed. "Sorry," I sighed with a smile. "I have to protect my friends. I'm not sure how I got back here in the first place but I owe it to them to keep my mouth shut" Howard nodded his lips tight.
"Understood" he set his feet flat on the ground and then stood up, closing his jacket. He then walked on out to the door. I watched him amused as he stopped abruptly. He turned around, confused. "Why aren't you coming?" he asked.
"Howard, are you daft, or is it just age?" I spit. "I can't go out like this" I gestured to the clothes I was wearing. His lips turned into an 'O' Shape. As he kept shifting on his feet uncomfortably. He thought for a minute and then he raised his index finger as the rest of his fingers followed, making his full hand stick out in a stop sign.
"Don't move" he said as he ran out.
"It's not like I can go anywhere!" I yelled. When he left, I finally took the time to look around. I don't understand how I got here. I was nowhere near a time machine when I got taken.
Sheets covered a lot of things, so I pulled them all off and there it was. The remains of a time machine. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how I got here. So I decided to take a closer look. The amount of dust suggested that it hadn't been touched for a very long time.
Something was going on and I don't know what. I just decided to let it go for a while until I gathered more information. I knew this was bigger than me.
I quickly put the sheets over the machine and waited for Howard to return. I sat back down on the chair as I kept looking at the ceiling, counting the squares. The lights were so bright and shimmery that it made me dizzy.
I got about 50 quares when I heard voices in the hall. "Mr. Stark, I thought you were done with secret meet-ups" A British accent echoed through the hall.
"Trust me Jarvis you want to see this" Howard's thick accent came through. It was something that would only happen when got nervous or excited.
They got closer and I stood up from the chair. They both stood in the door. Howard had a big smile on his face while Edwins' face fell with shock. "Dear Heavens" he sighed, his eyes wide and his mouth agape.
"Hello," I squeaked as I moved my left hand from left to right in a small wave. I noticed the neatly folded clothes Jarvis was holding. "I believe you have something for me?" I pointed to his hands.
"Oh, right" he jumped up from the initial shock and stepped forward handing over the garments. Both of them stood there awkwardly. I grinned and gave them a minute to stare before I put a stop to it.
"Right boys, I know I look great and all but I need to change" I made a sniffing noise. "I also need to get out of this basement it's a stuffy" I went over my nose with my index finger.
They both scrambled out of the room. "We'll be around the corner," Howard said. I changed clothes and got rid of the ones I was wearing. I pulled the hair tie out of my hair and looked into the reflection of a lamppost to fix my hair.
I was wearing a baby pink dress. The skirt was poofy and just fell just above my knees. I put on a white and pink T-shirt and shoes. I caught a glimpse of myself in the lamppost. It felt oddly nostalgic to wear a dress like that again.
I smoothed down the skirt to ready myself for the world I was about to step into the hall. When I stepped around the corner, Jarvis and Howard were waiting for me. "I'm here" I sighed. Howard smiled as he looked me up and down.
"Glad you're back" I pressed my lips together and nodded. I didn't want to be here.
"Yeah, let's go" We walked up to an elevator and waited for it to arrive. When It arrived, the doors dinged and the doors opened. I was the first one to step in as the two men followed and instinctively stood in front of me.
It was quiet for a while before I realized that I didn't know where I was.
"Howard?" I asked.
He hummed.
"Where are we?"
He laughed and shook his head. "As a time-traveler, you should know where you are sweetheart" I squinted my eyes. I was debating if I should say something to his odd comment but just then the doors opened.
Revealing multiple desks and people swarming around. We stepped out of the elevator and I gawked at the room and the people running around.
"We're at SHIELD?"
