(Y/N)'s brightest decision was not to lie to a police officer, but luckily when one escorted her to her doorstep late that night and told her father about her crappy boyfriend that left her behind in a junkyard, her dad was quick to play along.

"I've told you time and time again, (Y/N)," He'd said. "That boy is no good for you. You had us worried sick!"

He was quick to pull her inside, thank the officer, and bid her goodnight. As soon as the door was shut, he wheeled around with a look (Y/N) knew meant trouble.

"You are so lucky I love you!" He was close to yelling, but even he didn't dare. The police were on the other side of the door, after all. "Lying to police officials is a crime!"

"They don't know!" She tried.

"(Y/N)," He pinched the bridge of his nose and gave a heavy sigh. It wasn't the first time that she managed to stun her dad into silence. (Y/N) had a knack for getting into the strangest type of trouble. "What were you doing in a junkyard, anyway?"

"I told you, someone stole my car! And you wouldn't believe it, I got there and it turned out my car actually stole itself, and, Dad, I promise you, it was standing on two legs and--"

He pressed a hand to her forehead, startling her into silence. "Are you feeling okay? You didn't hit your head?"

"No!" She pushed his hand away. "I know what I saw."

Not even in her most vivid nightmares would (Y/N) create a humanoid car five times her size. She was exhausted, but that didn't make her delusional.

"I think you're just overwhelmed," Said her father. "It's late, (Y/N), you haven't slept, and you chased after a thief. Get some sleep and we'll talk about it in the morning."

"But--"

"Bed," He insisted.

With an annoyed groan, (Y/N) gave in and trudged up the stairs. Unfortunately for her, sleep evaded her that night, and come morning, her car still hadn't returned to the driveway. She didn't know whether to be thankful or disappointed.

Even though her dad promised to talk about (Y/N)'s findings in the morning, he had to go into work early for a last minute meeting. Of course, he still had enough time to tell (Y/N) she was grounded for running out of the house and lying to the police. Her mother was always at work before (Y/N) even woke up, so not even she could entertain her. She hurried to eat her bowl of cereal and took the long walk to school, missing the bliss of an airconditioned mode of transportation.

The school day trudged by slowly. By the end of it, she told Lily and A.J. that their plans for the weekend had been indefinitely suspended. She didn't even dare to tell them about what she saw in the junkyard, so she told them she was grounded for simply not doing her chores.

By the end of the day, Lily, who thought (Y/N)'s car was in the shop, offered to drive her home. For a wonderful moment, (Y/N) almost forgot all about her alien car running away and how she would have to save up for another lifetime to buy a new, hopefully not extraterrestrial, car.

"If you want me to bring you anything when you're stuck in the house, just text me." Lily pulled up to the curb. "I'll bring you ice cream, a movie, whatever,"

"Thanks," (Y/N) hopped out of the car and slung her book bag over her shoulder. She shut the door, still talking to Lily through the window. "I should be good, though. It's only one weekend."

"Oh, hey, your parents must've picked your car up from the shop,"

(Y/N)'s blood ran cold. Sure enough, she saw the back end of the camaro tucked far into her driveway. She thought about jumping back into Lily's car and telling her to drive, but she was already waving and pulling away.
