JEAN KIRSTEIN WAS FAR FROM a saint, and that became painfully evident after his summer experience. Initially, he followed the same routine—waiting for Pieck Finger whenever she deemed his presence necessary after yet another fallout with her on-and-off fling, Porco Galliard. The dynamics between Porco and Pieck were never formal; he shied away from commitment, preferring the world of casual flings and unofficial connections.

Pieck, though considered a sweetheart by their friend group, had a habit of stringing Jean along after every dispute with Porco. While most in their circle were aware of this dynamic, Porco remained blissfully ignorant. Exposing the truth could lead to complications since, in Porco's eyes, Pieck was exclusively his. To everyone else, Jean was merely a foolish pawn happy enough to be caught in Pieck's game.

For Jean, the summer was Pieck free, but not because it was his original plan to begin with. It was because he had somehow met you, and he had somehow ended up spending every second of it with you. To say that you were completely innocent in this situation was an understatement. Although Jean was not a taken man, it felt as if he was, and you felt guilty because of it.

Although Pieck and Jean's complicated relationship was not known to Porco, it certainly was to those who knew them and their friend group. You had no intention to get involved with Jean Kirstein in any way, shape, or form. If anything, you were fully convinced he was a spoiled, rich douchebag who was friends with the lowest people amongst your college. Plans and intentions don't always stay the same, though.

Now, seated in your Creative Writing class during the second week of school, with Jean in the seat next to you, his unwavering gaze became intolerable. Clutching your tote bag's strap tightly, you stood up and left the classroom, unwilling to endure his persistent staring any longer. Despite leaving to escape his gaze, his eyes followed you with every step you took, alongside your classmates that sat in their respective seats.
