Chapter 6

Chapter 6- Promises

On the final day of school, I wandered the halls, not caring about attending classes. But I wish I stood in class. I had bumped into Jules. My best friend and ex-lover. 

"Hey, Jules," I said with a voice that was laced with awkwardness. 

"Don't 'Heyy, Jules' me. Why did I have to find out that you are leaving for basic this summer from your parents" Her voice was very filled with anger. I just shook my head and shrugged my shoulders. 

"I-I- genuinely don't know" I could tell she did not buy that story.  She pushed me into a nearby locker and gave me a look of sadness. 

"Tell me the truth, now. Please" She spoke with utmost concern in her voice. Her eyes were pleading with mine. I sighed. knowing I will crumble under her eyes and touch. 

"I knew that you were gonna give me all the reasons not to go. I want to do this Jules, please let me do this. . .  I am BEGGING you. " staring into her eyes for what feels like for hours. She hung her head low and just nodded. I knew she wasn't happy about it. 

"Just promise me you'll always try to come back in one piece." I bursted out laughing while nodding at her. 

"Of course, love. Always. You're my number one gal. " I said to her with genuine love and care in my voice.  I walked her to class and dropped her off. I continued to wander the halls. Then I bumped into her. 

"Hey, Cassedy!" saying with genuine excitement to see her. I

"Hey JJ! What are you doing out of class?" To be honest I wasn't paying attention to a word she said. I was too busy analyzing every inch of her. Her beauty was unlike any other. 

"Oh JJ, my eyes are on my face, nowhere else" She spoke jokingly.

"Oh, trust me I know. Your eyes are my favorite part of you. I can't help that you are beautiful even when you only wear a hoodie and sweats." I spoke with admiration and a flirtatious tone.  I wasn't lying to her. 

"JJ, if you want to be with just ask" She spoke joking around but I wasn't thinking as a joke. I just blurted it out. 

"Ok, Cassedy Jones . . . Go out with me. Tonight maybe?" I spoke lowly and she smirked and pulled me into an empty class. She locked the door behind her. 

"Ok, idiot. We've been messing around for the longest time. I like you. A lot. I want to be with you in public and I want to kiss you and hold your hand." I was just shocked by the switch-up. I mean, yeah we were messing around being a couple in private and I didn't like it. To be fair, it doesn't really look good when I'm with my ex's old best friend.  

"I know, my love. I want to but you know what the issue is here. Look on the bright side, today is the last day of school and we graduate tomorrow. After that, we have to hide anything. I promise, doll." I look at her and I just crave her lips latching onto mine to shower that I being genuine. Screw it. 

I pull her closer to me and lean down to connect the space between our faces. Our lips move in perfect harmony. Making the best music to our ears. This kiss wasn't like the others. This one filled with care, passion, and love?  I can't love her. But I do? I don't know. We kissed until air was an issue for us. As we pulled apart, we just stared at each other.  I kissed her forehead. 

I muttered, "I promise."  She nodded and rested her head against my chest. I stroked her hair. As much as I am enjoying our moment, there is a battle in my head. I don't want to leave her but I want to leave HERE.  I'm going back and forth if I should tell her. I want to but I don't want to ruin the moment. 

"Cass. . . I'm leaving soon. I know I promised that I wasn't gonna leave but you have to know." I spoke as I moved her so that she could look at me in my eyes. She just put her head back on my muscular chest. 

" I know, I heard you and Jules talking. I'm going with you. I don't care what you say" She said into my chest. My face heats up, I found a girl that didn't want to leave me. I did it. I found a girl that I love. Do I love her? Yes, yes I do. I pushed her gently so she could see my face. I leaned down and kissed her and she kissed back. 

God, I made so many promises today.
