The Hearts that Bind

Part 6

September 2013:

"Kia, I'm not feeling the spirit." Simone says putting down her pom poms.

"The spirit of Halloween is upon us. We have to have our affairs in order early ma'am."

"Ma'am, what if I gain weight in between time? We're like a month out." Simone inquires.

"Then you'll be slim thick. And the costume will hug your curves. I call that a win." Kia explains and Simone rolls her eyes.

"I wouldn't mind being slim thick." Simone admits, toying with the thought in her head.

"Exactly! And since we can't do group costumes this year like we did last year, we have to figure out what we want to be."

"Something sexy?" Simone suggests arching her brow.

"That's the spirit!" Kia encourages turning around to look in the mirror. She starts twirling and posing as she holds up some of the clothing pieces she's debating buying in front of her figure.

Simone's phone starts to ring, the caller ID reads Thea, so she picks it up.

"Hello, darling." Simone greets once she picks up the video call.

"Hello, hello. What are you doing?" Thea asks.

"I am at the store with Kia, clothes shopping."

"Her favorite past time." Thea comments.

"Retail therapy is the best therapy." Kia interjects.

"Sometimes." Thea agrees.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm currently sitting here with baby Chase, looking at him and wondering how something could be so perfect." Thea answers.

"Let me see my nephew!" Kia demands, yanking the phone from Simone before she can register what's happening.

"Hold on." She hears Thea request from the other side of the phone.

"Move, I want to see him too." Simone bumps Kia with her hip, making sure she gets close enough to see the frame.

Thea turns the camera and they're met with the cutest little two week old, brown skinned, baby he's got a head full of her black hair. His lips are puckered up in his sleep and he looks the picture of serene.

"Awwwwww." Kia and Simone say in unison and he twitches at the sound of their voices.

"Oh my god, now don't wake him up, he gave Damon hell trying to get him to sleep." Thea explains turning the camera back to herself.

"On a scale of one to ten, how funny was that?" Simone questions.

"It was pretty funny because I get him to good to bed easily most of the time. Damon was stressed. I didn't want to laugh at my baby but, I couldn't help it."

"My nephew is an angel, he'd never give anyone a hard time." Kia comments.

"You'll have to tell Damon that and I bet he'd disagree." Thea laughs out.

"Tell Damon what?" They hear come from the background.

"Nothing babe, we were just talking about how easy it was for you to put Chase to sleep."

"Now, why are you on the phone lying to those women?" He asks.

"A litlle embellishing from time to time never hurt anyone." Kia states, having Simone back the phone.

"Well, while he's out I'm going to take a nap. I'll talk to you two later." Thea shares through a yawn.

"Alright, we'll let the new mommy get some sleep."
