Sakura shot up in her bed, gasping for air as if surfacing from deep waters. The remnants of another nightmare clung to her mind like tar, formless shadows receding from her grasping thoughts. She swung her legs over the side of the bed and buried her face in her hands, willing her racing heart to slow.

This was nothing new. Ever since she could remember, sleep brought her no rest, only terror. Visions of cataclysmic events stalked her dreams - cities crumbling under waves, stars dying in silent explosions, beings of unspeakable power playing out cosmic battles across realities. The dreams felt more real than waking life, yet retained an alien, intangible quality she could never replicate on canvas or word.

Tonight, a new nightmare had come. She saw a shadowy virus sweeping the world, twisting men's minds and bodies into nightmares of flesh. Entire cities dissolved into chaos, humanity tearing itself apart. Through it all, she sensed calculating eyes regarding the carnage with detached interest, prodding the plague to new heights of madness. The vision's message was clear - some threat to humanity was emerging, one beyond any natural disease.

Sakura rose and dressed silently, as she had many nights before. Sleep would not return, so she may as well spend her few waking hours in meditation. Slipping out of the orphanage dormitory and into the Tokyo streets, she began the familiar walk towards Ueno Park, seeking the solace of its ancient trees. In their boughs she found the only peace this world could offer - but they did not contain the answers that eluded her.

Who was she, truly? Why these visions, this separation from the rest of her kind? And what dark forces were aligning against the world? For now, only the quiet of the forest and the small comfort of starry skies kept such questions at bay. But Sakura felt a gathering storm on the horizon, and knew her isolation could not last.

The dense foliage of Ueno Park enveloped Sakura as she walked its winding paths by moonlight. Around her, the ancient trees stood as sentinels, witness to centuries of change but immutable in their quiet watch. Here, she found the solace denied in sleep; among these ageless giants, her restless thoughts could find peace.

She emerged into a small clearing where moonbeams filtered through in a soft glow. Settling beneath the boughs of a great ginkgo, Sakura closed her eyes and breathed deep of the night air. Her troubled dreams still lingered at the edges of memory, shadowy forms that retreated from clarity. With practiced ease, she let go of conscious thought and sank into meditation.

Her mind stilled, senses expanding beyond the physical. She became aware of subtle energies flowing through the landscape, life-forces mingling in the darkness. Deeper still she delved, perceiving layers of existence beyond normal ken. Here a whisper of future possibilities, there an echo of long-faded pasts. It was a realm of poetry and portent that spoke to something within her soul.

Then, on those etheric currents, she felt a disturbance - a warped, oily presence that oozed through the park like a stain. Revulsion and recognition rose in equal measure. This taint mirrored that which she saw spreading its corruption in her dreams. Her eyes snapped open as the vision took form, resolving into a hooded figure watching from the trees.

They regarded each other in silence as the midnight air thickened with dread. Sakura stood slowly, fixing the stranger with a stare that had seen through veils within and without. "What do you want?" she asked, voice steady despite her mounting unease.

From the shadows emerged a gaunt, pallid face, eyes black as twin voids. "Only to speak with one like myself. You feel it as I do - the wrongness twisting this world. An ancient evil has awakened, and feeds its poison through the veins of men. You know this truth."

Sakura narrowed her eyes. "And I suppose you claim to fight this evil? Your presence reeks of its taint."

A rasping chuckle escaped the figure's throat. "We use the powers granted us, child, though to different ends. I come with a warning - forces are aligning to change this realm forever. Your...gifts will play no small part, whether you resist or join our cause."

Her eyes flared with otherworldly light. "I will die before aiding your corruption. Begone from this place!" Power swelled within, but the stranger only smiled its mirthless smile and withdrew further into shadow.

"We shall meet again, little oracle. When the world is remade, I hope you find more...enlightened purpose in your abilities." With that, it melted into the woods, leaving an echo of its unnatural presence.

Sakura's breath came fast, mind racing. This encounter raised more questions than answers, yet one truth was clear - the threat in her visions was manifesting, and had taken interest in her for some sinister end. She had to learn more, uncover the purpose behind her gifts and those who sought to use them for evil.

There was only one who might provide answers - the enigmatic Master Hiroshi, who had watched over her from a distance since childhood. If anyone knew the secrets of her nature and destiny, it would be he. Resolve hardened within her. At the next dawn, she would seek him out, wherever in the city he dwell. Her isolation could not last, not with darkness descending on the world.

The time had come to take the first steps towards her hidden fate.
