"No, auntie Jen, don't go!" Jake pouted as Jen picked the five year old up.

"Sorry dude, I gotta get home for dinner." Jen replied, laughing.

"No! Just stay here!!!" The tweenage girl, Izzy, insisted.

Jen hugged Izzy, still balancing Jake in her eyes. "Sophie's waiting for me guys."

"Can you bring her over tomorrow? Please!!!" Izzy begged.

Tess, the mother of both children walked into the room, tears streaming down her face. Jen clocked this quickly and placed Jake down on the sofa. "We're going to the play tomorrow, remember? The school show that Sophie's in! You guys sit here for a few minutes, I'm gonna have a chat with your mum."

Jen took Tess's hand and led her to the kitchen, shutting the door just in time for Tess to break down and just in time for Jen to catch her and bring her into a hug, both of them falling to the floor in the process.

They stayed like that for five minutes, the long haired blonde crying into the younger woman's shoulder, Jen holding her close and letting her cry.

Eventually, when Tess was all cried out, Jen pulled her up and ran her a glass of water. Tess leant against the kitchen island whilst Jen leant against the counter opposite.

"What happened?"

Tess took a deep breath. "I called Ricky to see when he was gonna be home for tea. A woman answered and then I heard Ricky say 'baby come back to bed.'"

Jen hugged her again. "So leave him, you've never been happy with him. It was an arranged marriage for gods sake."

Tess looked into Jen's eyes for an absurdly long time and then pulled herself away from the moment.

Jen shook her head and moved to the other side of the room. "I should go, I said I'd be home half an hour ago. But I'm only a phone call and a few blocks away. I'll see you tomorrow."

The two women hugged for one last time and then Jen said goodbye to Jake and Izzy.

Jen went home and collapsed on the sofa next to her daughter, groaning.

"What's happened to you?" Sophie laughed.

"I think I'm in love with Tess."

"Well that's a problem." Sophie closed her book and turned to face her mother. "Chat it out over a cuppa?" Sophie requested.

Jen nodded and smiled, both of them heading to kitchen. Jen boiled the kettle and looked at her daughter, realising how lucky she was.

The fifteen year old turned to her mother and said, "Let's hear everything. Every feeling you've got. We'll figure it out together."

Jen poured the tea and set a mug opposite her for Sophie at the breakfast bar. They both took their seats and Jen launched into the tale. "Well, I haven't been with anyone since your dad and we know how that turned out." Sophie's dad had left them when Sophie was seven. "And Tess has just found out that Ricky is cheating on her and then there was a moment." Sophie nodded.

"A mutual moment or a one sided moment?"

"I think it was mutual. We were sat in the kitchen and she had just stopped crying. I hugged her and then we just looked at each other and there was just a moment y'know? But she's got Jake and Izzy, and I've got you. And we work together and it could end really badly. but she's drop dead gorgeous and so smart and fun and funny and I think I love her, no. I know I love her."

"Well then. Leave it all to cupid."

Jen gritted her teeth. "Please don't be stupid."
