Chapter 16

Kara isn't best impressed when the plane lands and she's immediately separated from Cat and Lena. She was hoping for at least a few minutes with them to talk before being whisked away but the second the plane is on the tarmac, Cat and Lena are ushered into one car, she's ushered into another, and she's on her way to see The President whether she likes it or not.

She's being escorted by who she assumes to be some kind of secret service or high-ranking guards or something of the like because they are dressed in fancy suits and are somehow watching her every move and not looking at her at all at the exact same time.

For the most part, she tries to do the same and ignore them back and instead just look out of the window but she's been sat between two of the guards so she can't look out of it without having to lean forward uncomfortably. She doesn't pay it much mind though, leaning forward and craning her neck to try and see where they are, not that she'd recognise the streets anyway since she's not particularly familiar with the city, She's only been here once before and it was a very short stay years ago.

She must be doing a good job of annoying the guards though, or at least the one to her right because eventually he turns to her and snarls, "Lean back."

She sighs quietly and does what she's told, noting that this isn't good foreshadowing for her meeting with The President. She's pretty much just expecting to be asked to back off the articles and mildly threatened to stop coming after them and this is pretty much just practice for that. She really wishes she could have someone with her though because while she's pretty good at handling herself, she can only handle so much before she wants to cry and she would be able to stop that involuntary response being triggered by having a friendly face at her side to play off of.

As she expected, they pull up to the infamous White House and she's taken inside to be led to the Oval Office. She sees the door and her heart jumps up into her throat, her nerves really intensifying now that it's real.

She's not taken into the office though; she's taken past it and into a room down the hall that appears to be a small meeting room with a large table that has a whole bunch of chairs surrounding it. A guard grabs her by her upper arm and guides her inside. His grip isn't painful, just tight enough to let her know that there's more force to be added if she tries anything.

"Sit down and wait," Is the only instruction she gets before the door is closed behind her and she's left alone to either stand awkwardly around as an act of defiance against the guard that told her to sit down or she can sit down and just stare at the wall until something happens.

Kara opts to sit down, crossing her legs and folding her arms as she just pins her gaze on one spot on the wall. She tries to keep her face as void of emotions as she can since she's definitely being watched. There are cameras all over this building and she doesn't have to look around to confirm that, it's just common sense.

Thankfully, she still has her purse on her, although it was searched through when she first arrived, so she's got something to focus on when she gets bored, which she does very quickly since the wall Is plain white. She kind of wishes it had recently been painted, then she could have watched it dry. There's not even a clock in here for her to watch.

A few minutes into her wait, she ends up setting her purse on the desk and opening it up. Reaching her hand inside, she openly starts pulling everything out and lining it up beside the purse since it's now an absolute mess where everything has been jumbled by the uncaring hands of security.

This is actually Lena's purse that she's using because before everything happened, including her apartment being flooded, a pen burst in her purse and she didn't realize it until she got to Lena's place, where she was staying that night. Lena insisted on her taking a bag and she argued with her that she would just borrow it but Lena ultimately won because she's still using it months later.
