Chapter 7

THE ABATTOIR
Hayley: Hope, what's going on?
Hope: Mom? Can you hear them, too?
Klaus: What's going on?
Bella: I don't know.
Hayley: Look at me. Tell me what you heard.
Hope: Voices. They said that we're connected to this. You and me.
Everyone looks worried.
Klaus: If this fossil has been whispering lies, I'll gladly throw it in the river.
Hope: No. Not the bone. The witches. The Ancestors. They have a message for us. A warning.
Bella: Ancestors? It's impossible. Wall is down. Unless... Her direct ancestor is contacting. Is it Esther?
"Can't that bitch just fucking die? Didn't she find peace?! Why is she not leaving us be?!" Yelled frustrated Bella.
Klaus: No. She is dead!
Hope: I- i don't know.
Hayley: Tell me what they said.
Hope: They want to talk to you.
"They? Don't tell me Dahlia is on this, too!" Said Freya. Everyone looks very worried.
Hope: They said you have to do exactly what they say, and you have to do it now. Before the Hollow comes for us.
Klaus: And mother wants to help us out of goodness of her stone cold heart?
[Bella's phone rings.]
Bella: Sorry. [she answers it.]
Layla: Hello, mum. I have good news. Me and Enzo went through the remains of the Lockwood estate, and found you one creepy-ass, ancient finger bone.
Klaus: Your efforts are appreciated. Now, if you could only pick up the pace.
"Little more gratitude would be apprecated." Said Layla.
Bella: Nik!
Layla: One more thing. The Lockwoods, they didn't just safeguard the bone... They kept records with names, dates and locations. Turns out they had knowledge of other families that were charged with guarding the rest of the remains. Guess what name i found? Labonair. [Bella looks at Hayley.]
Layla: That might be a lead to help you find the rest of the remains.
Bella: Well, I'm afraid I'm occupied, so call Elijah. He will meet you.
Layla: Okay. [Bella hungs up.]
"You don't even ask questions? Just do it?" Said Davina.
"She said she was busy. I will probably call her later and find out details." Said Layla. Bella smiled at her.
Bella: (to Hope) So? How are they gonna talk to us? [Hope's eyes go white.]
Klaus,Hayley&Bella: (yelled) Hope!
Esther/Hope: Hello, children!
Bella: Esther.
Everyone looks worried for Hope.
Klaus: (yelling) Leave my daughter alone!
Esther/Hope: Listen, i don't have much time. We have to be fast. I came here to help you.
"Yeah, i believe you." Said Freya sarcastically.
Hayley: Why we should believe you?
Esther/Hope: (to Klaus and Bella) I know i wasn't good mother. I failed you. I know it now and i want to fix this. I want to fix my mistakes. Let me help you.
Mikaelsons look taken a back by her admition.
"She.. She is manipulating us, isn't she?" Said Bella.
"I thinks so." Said Klaus.
Klaus: (greeting his teeth) Do we have a choice?
Esther/Hope: I guess not. To defeat Hollow first you need to know what you're up against. It begins a thousand years before the city was founded. Two rival tribes decided to combine their power. They thought that by uniting in peace, they would enter a new age of harmony.
Flashback
[Flashback to the Native American Shaman tribe of witches.]
Male shaman: Ceccan ulanigv.
Esther/Hope: A marriage was arranged. Two powerful witches joined together to create a unified coven.
"If she wants to help, she can just tell how to kill Hollow." Scrowled Freya.
Male Shaman: Ceccan ulanigv. Ceccan ulanigv. Ceccan ulanigv.
Hayley: A ceremonial wedding. Like the one Jack and I had to unite our packs.
Hayley looked at Elijah at the mention of marriage.
Klaus: Let me guess. Something went wrong.
Esther/Hope: That marriage bore a child.
Male Shaman: Neltoca teoyohtica. Neltoca teoyohtica.
Esther/Hope: For nine months, the tribe elders visited the mother, using magic to grant the child great power in hopes that the newborn would become a symbol of prosperity. [A child is born.]
Esther/Hope: But they had no idea what they were bringing into the world. She was named Inadu. Soon it was clear that she was stronger than anyone could imagine. And that she had a terrible hunger for more power still. And that's how the Hollow was born.
"Why doesn't she skip to killing the hollow part?" Said Klaus.
Klaus: Well, this is all... [Bella stepped on Klaus's leg.]
"Hey! What was that for?" Said Klaus.
"For intterupting! We need as much information as possible on Hollow." Said Bella.
Hayley: It was her tribe that turned her into this thing. Her family should have stopped it.
Esther/Hope: You don't think they tried? All they wanted was to undue what their magic did like me.
Everyone glared at reminder.
Esther/Hope: But that was the beginning of the end. Over time, she grew and craved more power. Inadu channeled life in all its forms. Her hunger was insatiable. She loved the fear she inspired in others. Her people knew her as ruthless, unfeeling, empty. Until that became her defining quality. So they began to refer to her by that single trait... "The Hollow".
Bella: She killed them all.
Esther/Hope: Not because they hurt her or were unkind. She did it for fun.
Klaus: Well, to be fair, we all have our bad days.
"Really, Nik? Now?" Said Bella.
Bella: Nik! Not the time!
Klaus: (to Esther) Perhaps you could get to the bit of the story that might be of some use. Like how to kill her.
Esther/Hope: You want to defeat the Hollow? She only has one weakness.
Everyone sits up.
Klaus: You have my undivided attention. What is it?
Esther/Hope: You. You're the one chance we have.
Klaus: What the hell does that mean?
JACK'S BAR-B-Q SHACK
Elijah: Good thing we brought the German sports car.
Marcel: Says the man in the $5,000 suit.
Elijah: Nine... if we're counting. I'm not a barbarian.
Everyone laughed.
"9000? Are your suits made of gold?" Said Hayley.
ROUTE 59
The Hollow: Car trouble?
Enzo: Yeah, it's the damndest thing. Just died on me.
Layla: It's Hollow! Get away!
"How do you know?" Said Marcel.
"I'm a siphoner. I couldn't miss magic like hers." Said Layla.
The hollow: Smart girl. Now give me the bone.
Enzo: Yeah. Sorry. Some other guy called dibs. And he's a real jerk.
"I'll rip your husband's toungue out." Said Klaus to Layla.
"Try it. I dare you!" Said Layla with narrowed eyes.
"You are just like your mother." Scrowled Klaus.
"Thank you." Said Layla.
"It wasn't compliment." Said Klaus.
"Hey!" Said Bella.
[The Hollow, in Aria's body, throws Layla and Enzo across the pavement with telekinesis.]
The Hollow: Why are you laughing?
Layla: 'Cause I know something that you don't.
The Hollow: And what's that?
Enzo: I packed that trunk full of C-4.
[Enzo shoots the truck and it explodes.]
"Cool." Said Davina.
"That's my husband!" Yelled Layla.
ROUTE 59
Layla: Oh, thanks god. You are here. [Layla hugs Elijah. Marcel moves to hug her, but Layla glares at him.]
Marcel: Oh, come on. It has been years!
Layla: I don't care! You should have thought about it before pretending to die!
"I didn't pretended to die." Said Marcel.
"No, you just hide that you were alive, never tried to seek us out or made witch send us magical messege." Said Layla. Marcel sighs.
Elijah: (to Enzo) So what happened?
Enzo: Well, aside for forfeiting, I blew up witch bomb when she tried to take the bone.
Elijah: What did she look like?
Layla: Brunette, gorgeous, lace top. Black jacket, dark skin, brown eyes.
Marcel: Aria. The Hollow's inside Aria, probably using her.
Marcel looks sad at that.
Elijah: Or using all of us.
Marcel: Oh, we got to find a way to save her.
Elijah: Or put her out of her misery.
Marcel: (glaring) You aren't killing her!
Enzo: We studied the records, and I got a family name... Del Robles. Bloodline ends ten years ago, and according to the Lockwood records, somebody in that family is buried with one of those mystical bones.
Elijah: Where?
Layla: Black Clay Cemetery in the Treme.
"Don't forget that. We will need it." Said Bella. Klaus nodded.
Elijah: Well, Aria has a head start.
Marvel: Hey, wait, wait, wait, wait. That cemetery was redeployed. Too much flooding. Now the bodies were moved to two separate locales... The Haves and the Have Nots.
Elijah: Del Robles were aristocracy.
Marcel: Okay, it means their crypt was moved to St. Ailbhe Cemetery.
THE ABATTOIR
Esther/Hope: Not you. Hayley.
"Excuse me?" Said Hayley.
Bella: What?
Hayley: What are you talking about?
Esther/Hope: It all comes down to the bloodline. That's the only thing that worked against her. When her evil became too great to bear, the tribes united to defeat her.
Flashback
[Flashback. The Hollow is killing her fellow tribesmen although they over power her.]
Esther/Hope: Tribe elders managed to capture her using mystical bindings. But even with all that power, Inadu was too strong. Death seemed the only solution. Four of the strongest elders each imbued a part of their magic into a mighty ax. When the weapon was ready...
Male shaman: [Speaking native language.]
Davina: ... they relied on her mother, the one who gave her life, to be the one to take her life. But before she could kill her child, Inadu cast a final spell.
The Hollow: Hashi nvgidgia nvsadi.
Esther/Hope: One powered by her own death. A curse upon all present that night. She bound them to the full moon, so that once a month they would turn into the very beasts they used to hunt her.
"Werewolf curse." Said everyone in realisation.
Klaus&Bella&Hayley: The Hollow created the werewolf curse.
Esther/Hope: You bear the mark of the Crescent. So did she. And her mother... Who, once cursed, became the first of the werewolves. The others fled, becoming the six other wolves you know today. But it was your line that began it all, and yours alone that still has power over the Hollow.
Everyone looked at stunned Hayley.
Hayley: That's why she's been hunting Labonairs.
Esther/Hope: The Hollow fears you. She wants you dead. And if you die, there's only one Labonair left.
Hayley/Klaus/Bella: Hope.
"She won't get to Hope." Said Elijah.
ST. ALIBHE CEMETERY
Marcel: Here's the "Del Robles" crypt. Looks like, given the body count, we're gonna have to check thousands of bones. "Our hearts will always defend this land." I think it's some kind of clue.
Elijah: Let's get to work.
"The bone is in their heart?" Asked confused Layla.
THE ABATTOIR
Esther/Hope: If you can track her, you can fight her. Your blood is her weakness. But there is one problem.
Hayley: What?
Esther/Hope: Without Ancestral wall, Ancestors can't stop her from coming back. And even if they could trapping her requires the release of power. The kind you get when you sacrifice the life of an immortal.
"This is bad." Said Klaus.
[Hope's eyes go white again and it goes back to normal.]
Hope: (scared) Mum?
Mikaelsons now look little sad about their mother's final death.
ST. ALIBHE CEMETERY
Elijah: Marcel. Olivia Tierra Del Robles. Tierra, of course, means land. As in all the hearts will defend it.
Marcel: Mmm. Watch yourself. And there's our bone.
Elijah: Now give it to me.
Marcel: Yeah. I don't think so.
Elijah: I'm not gonna ask you again.
Marcel: You have one of the bones already. The smart play would be to keep them divided, yet still in the hands of an ally you trust. So I guess you're just gonna have to trust me, Elijah.
"What's with you two?" Asked Bella.
Elijah: I don't have to trust anyone.
"You sound like Klaus." Said Kol.
Marcel: Careful, Elijah. Your true colors are starting to show. Yeah. You may talk a big game, but when it comes down to it, you'll always be a poster boy for violence first. Always and forever.
Elijah looks down.
The Hollow: You men and your silly posturing. You should know better. After all, your prize already belongs to me.
Marcel: Aria, I know you're still in there.
The Hollow: She is. Strong soul rattling around in a dying shell. But like all the rest of you, she's nothing compared to me. One last time. Give me what I seek.
"That's what everyone say, but we put them all down!" Said Bella.
Elijah: Why don't you come get it?
The Hollow: Fair enough. So long as you're prepared to die. [The Hollow easily takes down Elijah with her magic. Using her strength, she also overpowers Marcel and tosses him aside.]
The Hollow: Now the game comes to an end.
Hayley: Not just yet. [They start fighting.]
THE ABATTOIR
Layla: Hello, muchkin.
Hope: (exited) Laylaaa! [Jumps into Layla's arms.]
Layla smiles. So does Bella.
Enzo: I'm here, too, you know? [Hope hugs him, too.]
Hope: So did you finish your job? Are you back?
Layla: For now.
Klaus: I suppose I owe you thanks.
Enzo: You are welcome. [Hope and Hayley leave the room.]
Layla: Look, you're not gonna be able to keep Hope locked up much longer. And I'm guessing you know that me and Enzo decided to built a school. It's a place for kids with supernatural leanings, just like Hope. They are learning to use their powers for good and to embrace their identities without fear. Hope would always be welcome there. After all, Hope, Elias and Pandora are the reason we got this idea.
"It's a great idea." Said Bella.
"Yeah, i would live my daughter to go there." Said Davina. Layla smiled.
"Yeah, pretty smart of me." Said Layla.
Klaus: I'll think about it, When all this is over.
Bella: It's a real good idea. That's what you have been working on past few months?
Layla: Yeah. [Klaus gets out of the room.]
Bella: What about the "Shadow"? [Layla avoids her eyes.]
Layla: I love "Shadow" of course. That's my family, but i-- i am always busy with leading the organisation. Before it wasn't a problem, but now... now i want to settle down. I think it's time for me to try new things. [Layla is still avoiding Bella's eyes.]
"Layla, you don't have to do anything you don't want to." Said Bella. Layla smiled at her.
Bella: Layla. Layla. Look at me. [Layla looks up] I never meant to pressure you into anything. If you don't want to lead the "shadow", it's okay. [Layla hugs Bella.]
Layla: Thank you. And you never forced it on me. I wanted it.
"Future me is right." Said Layla.
Bella: So... Have you chosen new leader?
Layla: Yeah, it'll be Evan. I was surprised when he volunteered, but he is good. I trust him.
"Yes, he's good guy." Said Bella.
Bella: Good choice. So tell me about this school.
MARCEL'S PENTHOUSE
[The Hollow poisons Elijah with white oak ashes. He falls to the floor.]
"Noooo!" Yelled everyone.
The Hollow: Are you ready to die, Elijah? Because I'm quite ready to live.
Everyone looks at Elijah worried.
