Chapter 22

THE ABATTOIR(Elijah's room)
[Bella knocks. Elijah opens door.]
Bella: Can i come in?
Elijah: Yes. Did something happen? Are you okay? [Bella walks in and closes door behind.]
Bella: Yes, yes. I just wanted to say goodbyes.
Elijah: Bella...
Bella: No, Elijah, you aren't taking it. We already talked about this and there is no changing my mind.
Elijah: Go ahead then. [Bella sits on bed, Elijah sits next to her.]
"Get ready. Shit is about to get emotional." Warned Bella.
Bella: Elijah, you probably are one of the most patient person i know. I know it hasn't been easy for you to deal with us. Me, Kol and Nik have always been troublemakers and you were the one who cleaned up after us.
Elijah: Mostly Klaus. [Bella chuckled and nodded.]
"Hey! Kol caused more trouble than me!" Protested Klaus.
"How did i cause more trauble than you? i was daggered for three centuries!" Said Kol.
"Kol is right." Said Bella. Elijah nodded. Klaus rolled his eyes.
Bella: The truth is that you raised us. You were more of a parent to us than Mikael and Esther have ever been. [Elijah looks taken aback and touched.]
Elijah offscreen looks same.
Bella: You taugh us what was right or wrong. You taugh me how to fight even through Mikael forbide it since "Girls don't fight". [Bella rolled her eyes.]
"So stupid" said Layla.
"I know, right? We might not have men's strength, but we are more flexible. It's just as useful in fight as strength." Said Bella.
Bella: You never had a childhood, you had to grow up fast and raise not only yourself, but us. You were fifteen, only one year older than Pandora and Elias, when you promised Nik to always protect him. You gave up your childhood, so you could help us and i don't think i'll ever be able to thank you enough for that.
Elijah smiled at her, his eyes watery. Bella smiles back. Elijah doesn't notice it, but Klaus is smiling at him, too.
Elijah: I'm older brother. It's my duty to protect youngers.
Bella: So was Finn, but he didn't do it. You didn't have to do it either, but you did and that's what makes you the best big brother anyone could ever wish for. Like every single person you have made mistakes along the way, but you always did what you thought was best for our family. [Elijah smiles through his tears.]
"You are good at making people cry." Said Layla.
"Is it a good thing or bad?" Asked Bella.
"I don't know." Said Layla.
Bella: While i'm gone, i want you to do what you have always been doing take care of our family. But unlike how you did it before, i want you to pay enough attention not to only Nik, but also others like Kol or Layla or Marcel or Freya and so on.
Mentioned people smile at Bella.
Bella: And most importantly, live long, happy life with your wife. You often forget yourself and put others over you. Protecting people you love is good, but it shouldn't be your whole life and your only goal. Sometimes you have to be selfish. Don't waste your life! Get the happiness you deserve, big brother! [Crying Elijah and Bella hug.]
Elijah and Bella are looking at each other with sadness and sorrow.
Bella: And Elijah, please, take care of Emma. She has no one. She will need this family. Please.
Emma smiled at Bella, pain clear in her eyes.
Elijah: I will. You have my word.
Bella: Thank you.
Freya's office
[Bella enters. Freya is sitting on floor, looking through grimmoires.]
Bella: You are wasting your time. There is nothing to defeat Hollow.
Freya: Bella! (worried) How are you?
Bella: Good for someone with evil spirit in her.
"Can you stop joking about this like you aren't atlking about your death?!" Said Freya.
"I'm gonna die anyway, might as well have fun." Said Bella.
"You aren't dying!" Said Kol.
"Not now, but there i am." Said Bella.
Freya: It's not a joke! [Bella smiled at her.]
Bella: It's okay, Rapunzel. Let me go.
Freya: No. No, there must be something to...
Bella: Maybe, but we don't have enough time for that. You can't fix everything, Freya. You aren't a god. [For the first time Freya's age is noticable. She is clearly tired and desperate.]
"Don't worry, Rapunzel. I will be okay. This will never happen." Said Bella.
Bella: Before i met you, i was only girl in family. I love my brothers more than anything, but i always wished to have sister.
"There somethings boys just won't understand. That's why i needed girl to talk to." Said Bella.
"I wanted to have sister, too." Said Freya. They smile at each other.
Bella: Then i met you. At first, i didn't trust you. Understandable. It's not every day your supposed dead older sister shows up. After that i get to know you. You are one of the most loyal, determined, selfless and strong woman i have ever met.
Freya looks touched.
[Freya smiles at her touched.]
Bella: You went throught so much from such a young age. You suffered more than some can even dream of, but you didn't lose your heart and that's what makes you so strong and special. You are everything and so much more than what i wished for. [Freya starts crying.]
Ofscreen Freya starts crying.
"I'm not dying. No reason to cry." Said Bella.
Bella: Being Mikaelson isn't easy. Kol and Elijah now have wives that will take care of them, but Nik doesn't. Instead he has daughter he has to take care of and yes, others will help him, but it will still be hard for him. My death will probably affect him the most.
"That's not true." Said Kol and Layla. Klaus looked at Bella sadly.
Bella: That's why i am asking you to take care of him. He isn't the easiest man to love. He has this bad habit of overthinking. He tends to overreact and he gets a little insecure every once in a while. [Tears roll down Bella's face while talking.]
Bella: He'll be needy for your attention. He wants to literally take up all of your time and he'll require a lot of reassurance. He isn't capable of fully trusting you. He doesn't know when to stop fighting with you even if he's wrong. He has no problem pushing you away if he feels like you're too close. Loving him will stress you out, loving him will make you angry, loving him will break your heart at times, loving him will test you, loving him will challenge you, and loving him will change you.
Elijah nodded along at Bella's words.
"I'm sorry." Said Klaus.
"It's not bad thing. You just went through many things. Everyone has their own way of dealing with stuff." Said Bella.
Bella: It may get so demanding that you'll be tempted to walk away, it may get so hard that you'll think about giving up, and it may get so complicated that you won't want to deal with him anymore. Loving him means you get to see him at his worst and most vulnerable and that is something that you'll have to be strong enough to handle, because he needs someone who's patient enough to understand why he is who he is today.
Tears roll down Klaus's face. Elijah pattes his arm.
Bella: It's not gonna be an easy relationship with him. But if he loves you, then i can promise that you'll be loved with such passion and intensity that you'll forget what life felt like before he came along, because he'll always be there to put your heart back together after breaking it. Maybe he's not the best at being loved, but he's pretty amazing at loving.
Klaus looked at his little sister with love and adoration.
Freya: (crying) I will. I promise i'll take care of him. [Bella hugs Freya.]
Bella: Thank you. [Bella is about to leave when Vincen enters.]
Bella: Take care of my sister and nephew, Vincent. I'll trust you to remind her time to time that she is her own person and shouldn't only take care of this family, but herself, too. [Vincent nods.]
Bella: (To Freya) Goodbye, Rapunzel!
The Hall
[Davina sees Bella and goes toward her.]
Davina: Thanks god! you are here.
Bella: (confused) Something happened?
Davina: I accidentally slipped up and Kol found out your plan. He is going crazy.
"Davina!" Said Bella.
"Sorry." Said Davina.
"I deserve to know! I shouldn't be finding out last!!!" Said angry Kol.
"Yes, but i clearly want to say goodbyes to everyone without interruptions and if everyone knew,, they would come at me together." Said Bella.
Bella: I'll talk to him, but before that. Birdie, thank you for being Kol's guide to light and giving him peace and happiness. No one has ever even got close to doing what you did for Kol. Thank you for that. Thank you for being such a wonderful wife to Kol and even more wonderful mom to my niece. Thank you. [Davina smiles sadly.]
Offscreen Davina smiles at Bella, too. So does Kol. Bella smiles back at them.
Davina: No, thank you. You helped me since the day we met. Without you i probably wouldn't even survive. You were the only person who helped me and never asked for anything back. Thank you for that. [Bella smiles.]
Bella: You are welcome, Birdie.
"Kol is lucky to have you." Said Bella.
"I am." Smiled Kol.
"Thank you." Said Davina.
Kol's room
[Bella walks in room to see Kol destroying everything in there.]
Bella: Kol! [Kol frozes at her voice and turns aroun faster than vampire.]
"Wow, that's something for witch." Said Layla.
Kol: Bella! You... Are you... Did you...
Bella: Yes, Kol. I broke sireline and took Hollow and i'm gonna die at the end of the day.
Kol: Why would you do that?!
Bella: You know why.
Kol: Put it somewhere else. I don't care. Just don't die.
"Sorry, foxy." Said Bella.
Bella: Sorry, foxy, but this is only way. Only someone as powerful as original's power can make sure Hollow dies.
Kol: There has to be another way!
Bella: We don't have time for this. Let me say my goodbye.
Kol: No. No. I refuse. You won't die.
Bella: Denial won't change anything, Kol. Please, please. [Kol sits down begrugingly.]
Bella: Kol, I love you. You are my little brother. Did you know i was the first person to hold you after our parents?
Kol: No.
"She was. She ran into the room excited to see her new sibling. She didn't leave mother alone until she let her hold you." Said Elijah. Bella smiled at memory.
Bella: Well, i was. I was so excited i would have a little sibling and even throught i was little, i still remember how i picked you and you grabbed my hair, pulled it and giggled. That was the moment i promised myself that i would always protect you. And i broke that promise and i'm so sorry.
"You didn't." Said Kol. Bella didn't answer.
Kol:  You didn't...
Bella: I did. I should have stopped Nik from daggering you.
Klaus had decency to look guilty.
Kol: You tried.
Bella: And that was not enough! You died, Kol. You actually died and i wasn't even there. How many times did you need me and i wasn't there? I failed you.
Elijah understood excatly what Bella felt and gave her empathic look.
Kol: (teary eyed) You never failed me. You were the only sibling who made me feel like part of the family, part of always and forever.
"You are part of the family." Said Elijah. Freya and Klaus nodded. Kol didn't answer.
Bella: You should have never felt out of the family, in the first place. You are Mikaelson, Kol. You are part of this family. You aren't alone. You are Pandora's caring father, Who she looks up to. You are Davina's loving husband, she loves to the moon and back. You are Hope's favourite uncle, even if she doesn't want to name favourites.
"Ha! Knew it!" Said Kol.
Bella: You are Elias's cool uncle, who teaches him to have fun sometimes.
Kol smirks.
Bella: You are Niklaus, Elijah and Freya's littlest brother, they adore secretely. I know you don't believe it, but it's true. Nik isn't good at showing it, but he loves you, so does Elijah and Freya. And so do i. You are my baby brother and i love you so so much. Even when i die, i won't leave you, okay? I'll watch over you. [Kol hugs her.]
Kol looks down, tears streaming down his face.
Bella: This isn't finaly goodbye. We'll meet again. I'll be waiting for you on the otherside, little brother. Until then enjoy your life fullest with your family, with our family. Be happy. Because you deserve it! [Kol cries in Bella's shoulder.]
Kol sobs.
Kol: I love you.
Bella: I love you, too. Always and forever.
Kol: Always and forever.
Layla's room
[Bella knocks on Layla door. Layla opens it.]
Layla: Is it finally my turn? [Layla's face is blank, void of any emotions.]
Bella hugs Layla to her chest.
Bella: Your turn... You know.
Layla: I'm a siphoner. Klaus doesn't have Hollow. So i made them spill.
Bella: Oh... Are you okay?
Layla: (sarcastically) My mother is dying. I'm great.
Layla chokes out a sob. Bella runs her hand through Layla's hair.
"Shhh. Don't cry, darling. Everything is okay. I amn't dying. I'm here. I'm here." Said Bella.
[Layla walks back to her bed and leaves door open. Bella follows her and closes the door.]
Bella: I know you are upset and probably angry.
Layla: (yells) Of course i'm angry! You took hollow! Klaus agreed to do it, but nooo... You had to be the hero!
Bella: Klaus has a daughter...
Layla: So have you, if you haven't forgotten!
Bella: You are already grown. You don't need me.
"I need you. I need you." Cried Layla. Bella kisses her head.
Layla: You are my mom. I'll always need you. [Tear rolls down Layla's cheek.]
Bella: Oh, firefly. [Bella hugs Layla.]
Bella: It's the way of the world. Children bury their parents. It happens every day, every hour. It's a truth this family has avoided at a cost.
Layla: Yeah, well, why does it have to be you?
Bella: Because i can't let people i care about die.
Layla: And i can?
Bella: You can't stop me, Layla. I'll defeat Hollow for once and all. And yes, i'm willing to sacrifise myself for it. Listen... I have already lived thousand years. I have experienced love, hate, heartbreak, pleasure, sadness, happiness, sorrow, joy. I have lived long life and there is many things i regret, but one thing i have never regretted in my life even for one second is adopting you. [Tears stream down Layla's cheek.]
"I love you." Said Layla.
"I love you, too." Said Bella. She is still holding Layla.
Bella: The time you showed up in my life was the darkest time in my life. I had first big fight with Nik. Nik and Elijah daggered Kol and hide him from me, so i wouldn't revive him. I was so angry, sad, betrayed. I left Elijah and Nik and i was lonely and filled with rage.
Klaus and Elijah looked down with guilt. Kol looked at Bella gratefully.
Bella: It was truly darkest time of my life, but then you showed up and light up my life like a firefly in dark night.
Hayley, Freya and Davina looked at fellow mother empathetically.
Bella: You gave me joy and happiness, i never thought i would experience again. You, love, gave me the reason to live. You made me a mother. [Layla is crying, but doesn't interrupt Bella. She wants to listen what Bella has to say.]
Bella: I remember when i took you in my house. I have never felt that scared in my life. I was terrified. I thought i would fail you like my mother failed me, like i failed Kol.
"Stop repeating it. You didn't fail me!" Snapped Kol.
Layla: (sobs) You didn't. You have never failed me. You are the best mother anyone could ever wish for.
Bella smiles at Layla.
[Tears roll down Bella's cheek.]
Bella: I really hope so. Layla, i want you to know that you are the best thing that has ever happened to me and i'm so proud of you. I'm so proud of the woman you became. I can't believe i was the one who raised someone as wonderful as you. You are my biggest success. My heir. My legacy. My daughter. You are so perfect. [Bella caressees Layla's cheek and looks at her with love and adoration.]
Layla: I amn't.
"You are." Said Bella.
Bella: You are. You have always been perfect to me. You think i saved you, but truth is you were the one who saved me. You are stronger than you know, More capable than you ever dreamed and you are loved more than you could possibly imagine, Firefly. Never forget that, okay? Promise me.
Layla: (crying) I won't. I won't forget it, mommy. [Layla hugs Bella.]
Layla: I love you. I love so much. [Bella cries.]
Bella: I love you, too, my heart. Thank you for teaching me what is unconditional love. [They are crying, while they are hugging each other.]
Everyone smiles sadly at mother-daughter duo.
