Chapter Nine:
Alahya POV:
So, after he told me his secret, we talked about how he was only in PR to accomplish one thing: become human. At first, the idea seemed stupid and impossible. But then, he explained that with Arecibo’s radio telescope, we could communicate with extraterrestrial. Since he was carried with too much information, I trusted every bit of it. Even if it meant me believing the UFO stuff.
Now I got why he was so jumpy the other night: he hadn’t had his daily dose of blood for, like, three days. Now I knew why his birth certificate wasn’t found: he was one of the people that never got one in the medieval times. He told me about how his friend was once a great vampire and turned to human. A spark of jealousy got through me when he mentioned his last girlfriend. But then I forgot about that and kept listening. He told me that he needed my help because I was the only thing he had left: just like he was to me.
He also told me that he needed me to tell him information about Arecibo’s radio telescope. Luckily, my dad was the boss there and it would be easy to convince him to let us in. maybe even let us communicate with the extraterrestrial beings.
Tristan was taking all this seriously and told me he would do anything for this chance. He told me that this would be really hard for him because he has never done serious business without his compulsion powers. I kind of felt bad for Tristan. It’s like if he got into the real world now. Like if he was awoken from a dream where everything was done the easy way. Now he was learning how to be human without his powers. And he had me to teach him.
Again: mother and child.
Every time I compared us to a mother and her kid, it always brought a smile to my lips. The thought of him, one day, being a kid made me laugh. Too bad he never got the chance to be a kid. He told me that he was made. Tristan came from the spilled blood of Dracula when he was decapitated. Each tiny drop of his blood then became a vampire. So, there were more than a thousand vampires out there. Only a few of them played this so called ‘game’. Like all games, they can’t cheat. So all their powers are taken away for two reasons: one, so that they would learn how to be human; two, it would be too easy to win a chance to go to heaven.
“So, I’m guessing you want to go to heaven.” I finally told him when he finished talking. We were both cross-legged in the bed. He nodded and I found that totally adorable. “Well, I’ll tell you one thing: the real world is really hard to manage.”
“I’m willing to take those chances.” I nodded and sighed.
“Well, I’ll help you, but you have to help me in history class.” He had to. I mean, he has lived more than one thousand years, right?! He chuckled and then answered.
“Sure.”
“Oh, and can you –“
“No.”
“You don’t even know what I was gonna say!”
“Well, all I know is that the only class I’m good at is history. Nothing else…”
“Well, what about English?”
“All I know is that ‘sugar’ is the only word in English that uses the -s using the –sh sound.”
“…really?”
“Yeah, I’m sure.” I then laughed and he joined the laughter.
“I guess you can’t help me in English, then.” Then, an idea came to mind. “How about… art?”
“In what do you need help?”
