Chapter Four:
I put my luggage in the bed of the hotel room. It was not bad, but not good either. Eh, whatever. I had to be grateful for this. Correction: grateful to Alahya. I couldn’t believe she was good enough to convince them so that I could get a room for FREE. She told them that I was under guidance. I didn’t know what she meant by that. I then sat next to the luggage. Wow, I couldn’t believe it. I am going to do this.
I’m going to become human.
But I can’t get my hopes up. First was: go to Puerto Rico. Second was: disguise myself. Third was: get a place to stay. Fourth: work on my plan. Hmm, what was the plan again? Oh, right. First step in plan: blend in. How many steps existed? Hmm … I think they were more than one. Maybe, just maybe, I can skip –
What the heck?! Ugh, I’m not thinking straight. Have I missed something? I ate an hour ago, right after Alahya agreed to help me. Alahya, Bethany (her friend), and I went to the closest fast food. What was missing?
When was the last time I had my daily dose of blood? Oh no.
I haven’t gotten blood in days. I’m supposed to have it every day! That’s why it’s called ‘daily dose’! I went to the bathroom and shut the door. I felt dizzy and a little uncomfortable. I felt like everything is getting smaller by the second. Everything is getting closer to me. I felt squished and left the bathroom and went to the hallway.
My breathing fastened and then I felt my heart beat really fast. I don’t know why, but it just did. I know you might be wondering: why does his heart beat, when he is dead? Well it’s a long story. Long story short: I don’t know. Well, I do know. I just don’t have the energy to tell you.
I ran through the hallway. And, man, I shouldn’t have. I heard a loud baby scream, empowered by other cheers from other children. Wait, what? Children in a university? Better yet, babies?! I was beginning to believe PR was really weird. I’ve never seen such thing in England. I then turned around and kept on going. But the temptation was increasing.
No! Ebony taught you better than this! No children allowed when it came to hunting! I ran back to where I was before.
Ok, so now I’m back. What now? I kept running through the hallway and ended up in front of the tennis courts. Well, before that was a long, long endless hallway. When I got to the courts, I suddenly regretted coming here.
I could hear their hearts beating really fast. So fast, my throat hurt and now I felt even worse. Oh God, please no! I looked around me. There were people everywhere! I kept getting a glance at their necks. Oh, they looked so delicious.
I gave myself a mental slap. Dude, get out of here! These are innocent people; leave them alone doing their business. I then rapidly stepped out of the courts. But not fast enough so that a tennis ball wouldn’t hit me.
Ok, ouch? For it to even hurt was a miracle. We vampires never felt any pain from such a tiny ball. Well, an exception to bullets. It hit my neck…hard. I slowly turned around and saw Alahya covering her mouth in amusement.
“Oh, Tristan, I’m so sorry.” She told me over her muffled voice.
“It was you?” I said in disbelief. No way could she have that much strength. She was, like, 4’11’ feet tall! She had to shift her head a lot so that she could look at me clearly.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to. I was gonna hit that other guy.” She said while pointing at a guy that was at the other side of the court. I was mouth open.
“What the heck? He’s at the –“
“I know, I know! I forgot my glasses today, okay?!”
“Do you even wear glasses?”
