It was an early Tuesday morning and Derek and Meredith were laying in their king-sized bed in the dream house. The sun was streaming through the curtains, illuminating their bedroom. Derek was laying on his side his arms over Meredith's body. It wasn't usual that they both had a Tuesday morning off, so they were taking advantage of it. However, although they had this day off, life still continued, and it began with Derek and Meredith being awoken by two out of their four children arguing in the hall.
"Oh, I'm going to kill those kids," Derek said rolling over and looking at the time on his watch. "6:45, god why does school have to start so early," he groaned.
Meredith murmured, "Can you just shut them up," she rolled over to face Derek her eyes slowly waking up.
Derek rubbed his eyes, sitting himself up and kissing Meredith on the head, "What do you want me to do threaten them?" Derek laughed pulling some trousers on beneath the covers.
"Do whatever, you're more threatening than I am, they're more likely to listen to you," Meredith softly said her eyes still closed. "Tell them that I am trying to sleep and that they need to stop their petty bickering."
Derek stroked her head, softly laughing, "Ok," Derek smiled getting up from the bed and walking over to their bedroom door, where the arguing got louder. Derek rolled his eyes at Meredith, "Why did we have kids," he sighed.
Meredith stretched out in the bed, "You love them really," she said, "You're just a light sleeper so anything wakes you up, and unfortunately for us our children took after your arrogance," Meredith smiled over at Derek.
"Rude," Derek grinned opening the door, blowing Meredith a kiss which she returned, "Wish me luck," he said shaking his head and taking a deep breath.
"Oh, you'll need it," Meredith said giggling with the laugh she knew Derek loved.
Derek exited the bedroom to find his oldest children who were eleven months apart, bickering over who should go in the bathroom first.
"Cole you're such an ass," Ava shouted as he stood in the doorway of the bathroom with his arms crossed.
Ava Carolyn Shepherd was sixteen and the eldest of the Shepherd siblings she tended to get annoyed by the tiniest thing. She was a straight A student and loved flaunting her success in Cole's face which was just the beginning of their disagreements. She had dark brown hair and the bluest of eyes, which everyone said that were just like Derek's, but Ava didn't see it. Although Ava was academically smart, her life skills were absolutely useless and her tendency to do chores was a poor effort to say the least. She also was a typical teenage girl who got into heated fights with her friends, hibernating in her room for days before she would re-enter the busy household.
"So are you," Cole said as he towered over Ava smirking. "You take too long, I could get on a plane to fucking London and back for the time it takes you to get out of the bathroom," he exclaimed his fluffy blonde hair falling in his face.
Colton Derek Shepherd (aka Cole) was Derek and Meredith's eldest son and at fifteen, he was obviously the golden child. Captain of the soccer and ice hockey team and a good role model to his younger siblings. Ava hated Cole for that because she knew he was sucking up to get attention, which is what Cole got. Cole had blonde hair, with obvious highlighted waves flowing through it, giving it a fluffy texture. No one expected Cole to be blonde bearing in mind his father's hair legacy. Cole also has deep blue eyes which complimented his hair well. Cole wasn't the most academically smart so often forgot his homework which Meredith wasn't impressed with.
"Oh, give it a rest," Ava said as she tried to barge her way through Cole, kneeing his balls, making him break his frame in the door and fall to floor in pain.
