5. The Evening

A helicopter flew overhead as we exited the old park grounds. Something hit me though like in my mind, who was flying it? As time went by realizing I knew no one with a flyer license I focused my attention to Zach and his god awful driving.

Shortly after spotting the helicopter, there must've been a break in the aviary
because winged creatures clouded the air above. They must all be heading toward the main center like us.

"Guys start screaming to the guards to open the door, NOW" I demanded as we approached the gate. Two men in uniform.

We continued to yell 'open' and 'help' before they finally opened the gate. A look of panic went over the ACU soldier's faces looking up at the creatures flying in. I feel like we were almost bringing them in like we were squad goals but no they were trying to kill us too.Zach tried a parallel parking trick by the side of the building and that was his best driving skill yet. We all abandoned the jeep at the Samsung Innovation Center and we ran to find Claire and Owen.

There was mass chaos as the creatures swooped down attacking all of the people in the main area. We ran from the center to the walkway by the tank, still no sign of Owen. I looked around intensely.

"OVER THERE!" Gray yelled pointing at Claire running toward someone. That someone, I see, was Owen.

Owen struggled on the ground as the creature, one I have never seen before, bit and snapped at his face. The jaws of the tiny beast were closing in and his teeth sprung out just an inch away from his face.

Claire ran closer and grabbed Owen's small stun gun that laid on the ground next to him. She aimed and pulled the trigger which sent the animal flying to ground. Claire helped Owen stand up. He was okay that's all I cared about. As I was about to walk over
Claire grabbed his collar and kissed him.

My anger boiled over, my face was red with humiliation. I could feel the boys looking over at me. Owen quickly pulled back and stared at Claire. I was still standing there, my hand in a fist, when he looked to the left and saw me with the boys. I turned away to hide my emotions and ran to shelter in the jeep.

I radioed Vivian
As odd as this seems, Vivian always thought Owen liked me and she obviously knew that I sorta liked him.

"Hey, is this on the loud speaker"

"No, Ann, I'm in the restroom washing my hands. What happened?" She asked stopping the water.

"Owen," I took a long breath "him and Claire w-were kissing" I said releasing a few tears I had left.

"I knew she liked him! Why they hell would he do that, he likes you!" She yelled through the speaker almost making me laugh

"No he doesn't Viv"

"Well that's a shame for him! He is stupid if he thinks Claire is any better than you."

"Thanks Viv, he is coming to the car now" I radioed back as I saw him slowly walk over to the vehicle.

"Good luck Ann"

I put down my radio and dried my eyes as best as I could, nothing actually helped though. And when you try to fan your eyes with your hands, it does nothing.

He opened the door and got in. As those few seconds went by, I noticed he had 3 small claw marks on both arms and a gash in his left cheek.

"I know you were crying, did that kiss make you upset?" He asked getting straight to the point.

"Everything we been through, everything we have done, makes me closer and closer to you" I caught my breath "but I guess we were just friends"

"What are you trying to imply here AnnaMarie?"

It was the first time he said my name. Like my full name. It sounded better coming from him than my parents, because if I heard that from them, I really was in trouble.

"I like you Owen, like really, really like you." I said laying out everything I ever kept secret from him.

He stayed silent, I said too much and I knew that. But I continued,

"And I just needed you to know that, I can't keep that to myself anymore"

I turned away to hide whatever tears were about to pour out of my eyes when he pulled me back so I was facing him, eye to eye.

"No, don't turn your back on me. I love you Ann, not Claire. A few hours doesn't compare to the years we have spent together. She has done nothing for me to love, but you" he laughed a little bit "you have gave me so much to love"

I feel him leaning in and soon I was too, looking straight in his eyes. His eyes scanned from my eyes to lips trying to imply his next move. My heart was beating really fast to the point where no other word can go to replace the word 'really' other than 'dangerously'.

"Here goes nothing" he said cupping my face and pressing his lips to mine. My heart flipped as I smiled into our kiss. It was short but sweet, our kiss. We parted slowly resting our foreheads against each others. Something I have wanted for a long time just happened, trying to keep myself content was a whole other struggle.

"I have always wanted to do that" he whispered giving me goosebumps,

but we both laughed.

"Cmon the I-Rex will be approaching here in an hour, we need to secure the tourists" he said back in focus mode. That was the Owen I knew.

"Okay lets go get the others" I said

"Okay" he agreed

"Okay" I said as he pulled me into another quick kiss and we jumped to the front seat and started the car.

We swerved around the corner to pick the boys and Claire up dodging the crowd of people left and right.

"Get in!" I yelled as they all jumped in frantically.

Owen grabbed for my hand and held it as he started to drive to the paddocks. He comforted me so much where all around me was just panic. He squeezed my hand every time we almost hit someone, he was so nervous.

I heard Zach whisper to Gray behind me "I guess she is Owen's girlfriend"

I quietly laughed to myself as we pulled to the side and let people run by.
