I was just 16 years old when I went to see the animals at the Milwaukee Zoo with my little cousins. I was always fond of animals but working for any sort of zoo was never my intentions.
I met a boy named Tommy, a year older than me, who worked at the zoo.
His parents worked/owned the Penguin Kingdom, my favorite.

"You know that's just a myth.." he said motioning to my tan shirt

"I know that now" he laughed "no, uh actually this is my favorite shirt"

he flips his imaginary weave with full intention to create sass and said "its totally your color"

"Well do you have a name?"

"Well according to my parents I'm Thomas but I prefer Tommy" he said as we continued to look at the Penguins.

"Well hello Tommy, to my parents I'm AnnaMarie" I looked at him "mostly when I'm in trouble, but I honestly prefer the name Ann"

"Well Ann, nice to meet you" he said extending his out to shake it, so i did

"Hey would you want to go see the Penguins?" He asked

I chuckled a bit "we are already-"

"No like go in the back and play with them, my parents own them" he said

I covered my mouth, my 9-year old self came out and squealed while doing an odd head bob to indicate that yes I want to go see the Penguins up close.

"Here follow me" he said taking my hand to a doorway labeled 'Employee Access Only'

We entered through the back, it was dark and cold and had aisles of files along he wall. He pointed to a big blue door at the end of the hall. As he unlocked the door the air became even colder and we heard many chirps from the birds.

"They are excited to see someone new" he said smiling "here over here, this is Elle" he said bringing me over to a hatchery where one little penguin sat shaking herself dry.

"How old is she?"

"She is about 3 days old" he looked back at the glass "my mother insisted to keep her in warm containment, she doesn't dry naturally like the others"

"She'll be okay, right?" I asked

"God I hope so."

Me and Tommy grew close. He face timed me every few days so I could see Elle till I could drive up there on the weekends.
After graduation I moved to Milwaukee and worked at the zoo. It never was my intention to be a zoologist but it seemed like the perfect idea and I was having so fun working for Tommy's parents in the penguin kingdom.
As for our college situation, we did online schooling from my small apartment down in Milwaukee so any classes we did, he just came over and we studied.

One day we were working with Elle and her babies

"Hey Ann, Thomas, you have a call from a woman by the name Claire Dearing, it's very important" His mother said peering from around the corner.

We followed her to the conference room where a woman with short orange hair was on video chat.

"Miss. Platt, Mr. Anders, I am Claire Dearing, I am the main care taker of all controls of Isla Nublar. "

"Wait Isla Nu-"

"Yes, Jurassic World"

My heart leaped once more and I felt Tommy getting unsteady as he sat down

"It's real?!" He asked looking at the camera

"Yes, they are very much real Mr. Anders" she cleared her throat "and we want you two to come work with the new exhibits before we open to the public"

"Wait why is?" I questioned

"InGen suggested we take in as many intelligent zoologists, you two were the top of our list" she said with a smile through the screen

"When do we start?" I say with a smirk, Tommy looked over at me before agreeing

"All information will be in a packet getting sent over now, plan to leave for Costa Rica in about 3 weeks, we need your time and help asap" she said ending the call

"We are going to Jurassic World!" We screamed hugging each other jumping up and down. Jurassic World was being covered all over the news. The main paleobotanist, I think Dr. Henry something, has created the first dinosaur since the original park opened. Everybody was hearing about it, it's been on the news everyday as of 3 months ago.

Claire lived up to her expectations and Jurassic World opened 4 months after we started working there. The animals were nothing I have ever seen in my life. I preferred to work with the carnivores, as did Tommy and we both will soon be working with the raptors that will be born in a few months. We have been working there since the opening and it was going great.

One day I was working in the field, I haven't seen Tommy in 2 days and I started to worry.

"How is the little one?" Claire asked behind me making me jump

"He is doing great, his mother is very protective though" I said turning around seeing Claire standing along side a man, around my age, who wore a leather jacket over a tan shirt with camo pants.

"This is new raptor worker Owen Grady"
My face fell and I felt myself getting angry

"Tommy is the ra-"

"Tommy tore his ACL and have 3 fractures in his arm" she said, I covered my mouth in horror

"He will be out for about 7 months" she said again

"Where is he?"

She went silent. Owen put his hands behind his back as Claire spoke "in Milwaukee"

A tear emerged from my eye, he didn't even contact me?! I took my bag and walked away not even saying a word to Owen nor Claire.
I headed back to my bungalow and fell asleep.
