Chapter 8: Birthday wish.

"The woods are lovely,
dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."
Robert Frost—

Minho fulfilled his promise. Jisung never knew how he did it, but could guess by the black eye his best friend brought home with him after the 'peaceful' talk with the boys that bothered him.

No one dared being mean to Jisung after the incident.

The younger boy started enjoying school like he used to.

"I wish you were at school with me, Minmin!" had whined Jisung once. "We would have so much fun together!"

Minho brushed it off with a smile and some giggles. Jisung looked so pretty when he was excited about something.

Two years went by, were taken away from their childhoods. Minho's came to an end age-wise, though it had finished way before he turned twelve.

Again, children came an go, especially babies. Jisung and Minho still remained there.

Still, days were fairly peaceful for both boys and they were happy to spend them together.

It was Saturday when that peace was distraught.

They were sitting under the big tree from the garden, guessing the shapes clouds had above them. Jisung had explained the cycle of water to Minho, carefully going over every fact and answering any question the older would ask.

"Sunggie!" Aera Noona called from the distance. Both boys turned their heads to the voice. "You're late for the meeting!"

Minho looked confused, Jisung looked cought. "I forgot."

He quickly stood up and ran off towards the inside of the orphanage, Noona following close behind. Minho was left sitting there, staring at their backs as they walked away.

It felt as if he had been forgotten somehow. But it was okay. He was used to it.

After an hour, he grew hungry, so he gave up on waiting for Jisung to come back and instead went to the kitchen to grab a snack. He never expected to cross paths with his best friend, though.

"How was it?" he asked, mindlessly forgetting about his hunger and walking towards Jisung instead.

The younger didn't look up at him. "Minho, they've adopted me."

The world stopped and Minho's heart fell to his feet to shatter there. He wasn't hungry anymore. Actually, he felt like vomiting. Yet he forced a smile onto his lips.
