Oakland, California. March 31, 12:34 P.M.

"aaliyah."

"nah, biggie."

"what aboutttttttttt.... eminem?"

gio raises her eyebrows. "not a bad choice. which song though?"

i hum in thought. "role model. i've always had an image for a sample of that song."

"okayyyy." she nods her head and stands up. "ima call up some people to see how much they want. get it cleared, and see who we can get to produce this shit."

i stand up as well and dap her up into a brohug. "hopefully we get permission to do this cause its gon be hard. i can feel it."

she shoots me a quick smile before making a call and leaving the room.

gio and i were just wrapping up a lil brainstorming sesh, and i got a feeling this is gonna go good.

the others left not that long ago to get started on their songs and honestly, i think everyone is gonna come with some hard shit.

i bring a microphone to the producer chair and sit down. I pull out a piece of paper from my pocket, and open an unfinished song on my laptop.

oh yeah, i have a studio in my house because i found it more convenient in pursuing my music career. the ews can only help me so much and an at home studio was the best fucking investment i've ever made. real shit.

i put my headphones on and press play on untitled.8 and immediately tuned down harmonizing begins to play.

it plays out for about 10 seconds and then my faint background drums become audible. those drums play for 11 more seconds until the beat drops.

"i be in the loop, she be in the group"

"brodie want her friend, throw 'em the alley-oop"

"turned somethin' to nothin', bro im livin' proof"

"how am i losin' when y'all the ones snoozin?"

i grimace and pause the track, crossing out and rewriting lyrics. i rewind to the beat drop and start again.

"i be in the loop, she be in the group"

"brodie want her friend, throw em' alley-oop"

"turned somethin' to nothin', bro im livin' proof"

"how can i lose when we the who's who's?"

i pause the music and smile while nodding my head. i play that part back again trying to think. thats as much as i have written down. i guess im gonna have to freestyle the rest.

i replay it from the beginning and continue where i left off.

"still runnin' 'round with Mohawk, jet ready, pack the goyard"

"people probably think i show off, i ain't even give it yet"

"runnin' up a silly check, stayin' off the internet"

"share the stage with billie eilish, turnt at any given time"

"personal partners pillow talkin' 'cause i got rich without 'em"

"only thing they should be sayin' is, 'baby keep it solid' "

"we ain't even deep as we used to be, this shit slick, divided"

"bruh ain't got no hustle or nothin', so he gon' stick to violence"

"i be known to run down, i'm dialed in, so i can't speak about it"

"she know im a gangster, she love me, i bring the freak up out her"

"can't play with me, you know i come trim, i'm in a different league"

"i'm tired of showin' what i can get done, what you gon' do for me?"

"forty-thousand miles up in the air, only time i get some z's"

"full-court press, foot on they neck, and i can't let 'em breathe"

"blood, sweat, and tears come with this check, it ain't nowhere near easy"

"had to fall back, you know how that go, we only speakin' briefly"

"hope i'm not too much to handle, like city nigga from atlanta"

"i spent my last check on ammo, this is not a regular lambo"

"hundred thousand dollars kit, could've put down on another lambo"

"don't be in the mix, i built this shit forever havin' say so"

"this shit gon' get serious about my money, this ain't no fuckin' play-doh"

"brodie down for double homicide, i try to tell him, 'lay low' "

"c don't like to drive, but he spin good, i'm on the way to clayco"

"ak-47s in the spots before they made the draco"

i get interrupted by a tap on my shoulder. i take off my headphones and turn around to smiling gio.

"heyyyyy! that was hard as fuck cuz." she slaps my shoulder playfully but roughly.

i chuckle and close my laptop. "how long you been listenin?"

"since 'city nigga from atlanta.' " she throws her ams up in the air, "but guess what!"

i lightly smile at her. "what?"

"we got our sample cleared. AND.... drumroll please." she bites her bottom lip with anticipation.

i drumroll on my thighs and start to mess around, making a little beat.

gio clasps her hands together with a clap signaling me to stop.

"we got fuckin' dr. dre and mel-man to produce this shit."

i immediately get up and hug her. "dr fuckin' dre! and mel-man? no fucking way gio!"

she pops her invisible collar. "a magician never reveals her secrets. sampling em with two legends? we gon' get that fuckin a."

"oh we for sure gettin' that fuckin' a." i smile so hard that my cheeks hurt.

"aye we finna take off on they asses. they ain't ready for this, nigga!"

"you damn fuckin' right. shit i been waiting for this one. should we listen to role model now and feel this shit out?"

"good idea."

i move my laptop and turn on the computers behind it, i go to spotify and play role model.

when the beat starts to play with we both start to bop our heads to the music.
