Chapter Nine, Girl
Inari stood outside of the car with her older brother, Jeshurun. Jeshurun had tricked Inari into going out to eat with him only to find out that his wife, Doralis was waiting for them at the restaurant.
"I just want you to sit down with her, and hear her out, Inari," Jeshurun said.
Inari rolled her eyes.
"No," Inari said.
"Inari, please," Jeshurun begged.
"Great, get in the car," He said.
With a sigh Inari got into the car and her brother sped off not giving her a chance to buckle her seat belt.
"Ass," Inari mumbled.
Jeshurun had arranged a sit down between Inari and Doralis because he wanted them to squash the beef between them so that everyone can just be one big happy dysfunctional family.
See Doralis and Inari had a fallen out about two years ago over a bad business deal. Doralis blamed Inari for the business deal not going through. Inari, of course, defended herself and reminded Doralis that the business deal was never going to be successful because it wasn't a good investment.
Doralis didn't care what about anything Inari had to say and basically cut her off. Inari was fine with not having her sister-in-law in her life since she knew she wasn't in the wrong.
But Jeshurun apparently had a conversation with Doralis who wanted to make up with Inari.
"Does she have ulterior motives for this sit down, Jesh?" Inari asked her brother.
"She genuinely wants to repair things with you, Inari," He answered.
"It's just weird," She said rolling her eyes and looking at the window.
Jeshurun dropped Inari off at the restaurant while he parked in the parking lot to wait for Inari. Inari waited for about five minutes before she finally opened the door to the restaurant and walked around for a few seconds when she spotted her sister-in-law over at a table.
"Hi," Doralis said.
"Hi," Inari said, sitting down and slowly peeling off her jacket.
"You took your time coming here," Doralis said.
"Perhaps because I was a bit skeptical about coming here," Inari said.
Doralis' mouth twitched.
"I'm here to make peace," Doralis said.
"Here I am," Inari said.
"Well, I'm happy you came to hear me out," Doralis said.
"Okay, so what's up," Inari said.
"We need to have a talk. I feel like the awkward tension between us has gone on long enough and I want to mend our relationship," Doralis said.
"Okay, why now?" Inari asked Doralis.
"Because I realized that I handled our situation badly and that's not the real reason why I took a step back from you," Doralis answered.
Inari nodded. She always knew that the business deal wasn't the real problem but she could never figure out what happened for Doralis to stop fucking with her like that.
"What's the real problem?" Inari asked.
"The energy has been weird for a while especially when it comes to Joe," Doralis answered before pausing. "I feel like he came in-between us a lot," Doralis continued.
"No, no, no, you're not going to flip this on my husband, Dora," Inari said.
"No, I'm not trying to flip it. It's the truth, he is the reason why I took a step back from you. He was too much like I did not recognize you when he was around, Ari," Doralis said.
Inari started to tear up. "What the fuck man? Why couldn't you just talk to me? What the hell did he do that made you walk away from me?" Inari asked as she grabbed a napkin.
"It was always tension between Joe and I for years because I felt like he held you back, so when I heard about what you are going through with him... I knew I had to reach out because finally, you're seeing what I've always seen, and wanted to let you know that I am here for you," Doralis explained.
"I feel like for years it's always been something awkward between you and Joe," Inari said.
"I have a problem with how he treats you like you're meant to live for him and only him, you gave up a lot got him, Ari, and for years that pissed me off," Doralis said.
"Right." Inari said, carefully listening to Doralis' words.
"I don't want to have this weird tension with you and him, but I just want you to stand up for yourself when it comes to him," Doralis said.
Inari admits that Doralis has a point.
Doralis mentions not knowing how to navigate an awkward patch with Inari, and how she feels Joe came between the two of them. After Doralis expresses her lack of interest in interacting with Joe, Inari turns the mirror on Doralis.
Inari tells Doralis that there are people in her life whom she doesn't care to interact with either, but she keeps her mouth shut. Welp. Inari basically tells Doralis that she has to make her own mistakes and walk her own journey.
Despite the back and forth, Inari and Doralis make up and solve the problems they have.
"Okay, from now on just speak your mind and I will listen, you don't have to cut me off because if you do it again, there's no coming back like this again," Inari said.
Doralis nodded. "Inari, please," Doralis said.
Inari chuckled.
