Chapter Four; Daddy?

 November 20, 2020.

5:03 PM.

"Mommy, will you braid my hair pretty for me?" Ariel asked, carrying her comb and the pack of rubber-bands to me.

"Sure can, princess. Pop a squat." She giggled, sitting down in front of me. "Your hair is getting so long." I told her as I combed through her curly mess as gently as I could. She inherited that trait from her momma.

"Is our special guest still coming today?" She asked as I finished French braiding her hair.

"Sure is," I kissed the top of her head, "do you want to help me make the spaghetti?"

"You're making s-getti?" She asked excited, a smile spreading across her face.

"Yes I am. With garlic bread."

"That's my favorite!" She exclaimed with wide, happy eyes. God, every time I look into her eyes I think of her father.

"I know it is baby," I laughed, kissing her head again before I got off of the couch, "that's why I'm making it."

"Can we listen to music, pwease mommy?"

"Of course, what do you want to listen to?" I asked, plugging my phone into the speakers in the living room.

"Hmm," she tapped her chin while she thought of a song she wanted to listen to, "the breathing song by the kings!" I laughed, turning on Just Keep Breathing by We The Kings. Ugh, I love them so much.I raised my daughter listening to what is now considered 'old music.'Wow, that makes me feel old.

"Do you want to break the noodles for me?" I asked Ariel, handing her the box of noodles I grabbed from the cabinet.

"Is it ok if I stand on a chair?"

"Mhm, just be very careful." She dragged a chair from the dining room into the kitchen, pulling herself up on it. I smiled, hearing her attempt to sing along with the song. She broke the noodles while the water boiled and I made the sauce. I hope Justin is ok with no hamburger in the sauce because that's how Ariel and I like it. The next song came on, making Ariel squeal.

Favorite Girl by Justin Bieber. She shook her butt, singing loudly.

I tried to avoid Justin's music but she heard it on the radio one day and she fell in love. I have to admit, this is my favorite song by him. Always has been.

There was a knock on the door, making Ariel's head snap towards the door.

"I'll get it." She offered, already jumping off of the chair she was standing on. Before I could protest, she was opening the door herself. "Hi, I'm Ariel!" I heard Justin chuckle. I stood behind her, smiling at him.

"Sorry, she kinda just ran to the door," I looked down at her, "come in."  He entered my house, looking around.

"Nice choice." He smirked, hearing Favorite Girl still playing in the back.

"What's your name mister sir?" Ariel asked, looking up at Justin.

"My name is Justin." He smiled at her. "Like Justin Bieber?" He looked over at me, chuckling.

 "Wanna hear something crazy"

 "Yeah!"

"I am Justin Bieber." He whispered, raising his eyebrows.

"Nuh uh!" Her brown eyes were huge, staring at him in disbelief.

 "Yes huh."

"Mommy, he's Justin Bieber!" I walked over to them, laying my hand on Ariel's back.

"I know honey." I laughed at her. "Why don't you show him to his seat? Dinner is almost done."

"Ok mommy!" She showed him to his seat and I couldn't help but smile. She continued to talk his ear off while I finished dinner. She's definitely not shy. I carried the spaghetti over to the table, sitting it on two pot holders.

"I grabbed Parmesan cheese and cheddar cheese. I know we use cheddar but I know you might like Parmesan." I said quickly, smiling at Justin.

"I like Parmesan, thank you." I scooped myself and Ariel's plate, letting Justin get his own.

I can't believe this is actually happening. Like, Justin is here. Ariel is going to have her father in her life.

"So, Justin Bieber, are you married?" Ariel asked, folding her hands together.

"No, but I am engaged to be married."

"Oh. Well my mommy isn't. She told me she is going to stay not married forever."

"Oh yeah?" He looked over at me and I just shook my head, looking down at my plate.

"Why don't we talk about something else, Ariel?"

"Do you have a daddy Justin?"

"Where are these questions coming from?" I asked her, raising my eyebrows at her.

She shrugged, "I dunno, I just think of them in my head."

"It's okay, Carter," he looked at Ariel, "yes, I have a dad. His name is Jeremy."

"I don't have a daddy. My mommy told me I'm special cause she is my mommy and daddy."

Justin looked over at me with sad eyes and I felt my heart break.

"Ariel, can I tell you something?" I asked her.

 "Am I in trouble?"

"No honey," I laughed softly, putting my hand on top of hers. "Justin is your daddy, Ariel."

"Daddy? I thought I didn't have one mommy.." She furrowed her eyebrows with confusion.

"He was just confused, honey. But he wants to be a part of your life now."

"Why was he confused?" I swallowed hard, looking at Justin.

"Um, because I didn't know where you were at, Ariel. I was looking for you. I found you and I want to finally get to be a daddy to you."

"Oh, ok." She still looked down at her plate with confusion.

Well, this will take a while to get used to.
