“So, you can't remember anything about your past lives?” I asked.
The five of us sat on the front stage. Bonnie to my left, Freddy to my right. Foxy stood, keeping his distance and Chica sat beside Bonnie.
“No, we can't remember anything,” Freddy answered. His voice was closer in tone to how I imagined Freddy would sound, but a little more young. I hadn't quite narrowed down how voices of possessed animatronics worked, but it seemed they would default to the gender of the ghost, not the character. However it worked, it didn't matter that much.
“We only know that the one who woke us up was the Yellow Rabbit,” Chica chimed in. “He's our friend.”
“And where is this yellow rabbit?” I asked.
They looked at each other then to me. “We don't know.”
Whoever this yellow rabbit was had to have answers. Was it the fifth murdered child? Or was it some outsider who helped them?
“Where's the fifth one?” I asked calmly.
Freddy scratched his head. “They don't get out much. They keep to themselves most of the time.”
“I see,” I said. “There's no helping it then.”
I stretched. Despite appearances, these dangerous and scary robots were just poor children whose lives were taken from them. How no one figured it out before was beyond me. However, I knew they truly meant no harm.
“Can we ask a favor?” Bonnie asked.
“Anything,” I replied.
“Please don't tell anyone about us, especially William,” she said. “We can't trust anyone, anyone except the yellow rabbit…and you now.”
“I understand,” I said. “William won't find out.”
They seemed relieved. I could understand why they wouldn't want William finding out. Since he had ownership over the restaurant and them, there's no telling what he would do to them if he knew they were possessed. Though, maybe he'd help them? I wasn't going to take the risk.
Surprisingly, considering all that had happened, it was only about 1:40 AM.
“So, you guys have been here for how long?” I asked.
Freddy rubbed his chin. “What year is it?”
“It's 2000,” I explained.
“Oh, then about 15 years now,” Freddy replied. “It was around ‘85 I believe, when we died.”
“Geez, I was only about 4 years old then,” I said. “It must be hard living like this.”
“We've gotten used to it,” Chica chimed in. “For a while we got to see the smiling faces of the kids every day, for a little while at least.”
We spent the night chatting after that. I got to know the animatronics. I found out that they'd scared off several night guards before me. And a couple unfortunate guards ended up stuffed into suits, just like the phone guy said.
They told me that the Yellow Rabbit warned them not to trust anyone but him, thus why they killed several guards. Whoever this rabbit was, they seemed very distrusting as well…or worse, was guiding them wrong on purpose.
6:00 AM came around. I got up and walked towards the door.
“Will you be coming back?” Bonnie asked.
I looked back at her and the others. “Of course, we're friends, are we not?”
The animatronics seemed happy with this answer. Of course, Foxy was still apprehensive.
