Yggdrasil
~A DMMO-RPG where strength is not EverythingThis was the idea the creators of the massively popular game had in mind when they released it to the world. The open world game, where choice and the freedom to do so was its most key feature, took the world by storm.
Millions of players eagerly purchased and joined the game. Every single person having their own seperate reasons but each one simply wishing to have some form of escape from the grim reality of the real world.
One of the key apscets of the game was its focus on team-based growth. Yggdrasil was a challenging game and to grow and prosper you would need allies and friends.
Even then division formed as the small beginning parties grew in size and formed Guilds that would do battle against one another for the title of the strongest guild.
But while the dominant majority participated in the PvE (Player vs Environment) or the PvP (Player vs Player) aspects of the game with their allies. There was always the recessive group among them. The Black Sheep, those who denied the concept of strentgh through teamwork and sought levels and power through their own means.
In the community they had been given tons of different titles, "No-Lifes", "Power Creepers", "Arena Grinders". But in technical terms they were known as Solo Players.
Solo Players were, as the name described, were players who chose to play Yggdrasil by themselves. They abused the leveling system and the differential XP gain a player would get from PvP activities, such as arena tournaments. Arenas were PvP-centric areas where players would engage in 1v1 bouts. The winner receiving XP, items and even specialized buffs for their races or classes.
It was safe to say that Solo Players were a minority within Yggdrasil but not one that wasn't treated with respect. This respect would soon turn to hatred as the developers announced they would shutting down Yggdrasil after many years of success.
Following the announcement, the first thing to be taken down were the arenas. This forced the Solo Players to participate in the Guild dominated PvE area of the game. And while most simply left the game, not seeing a point in continuing, a certain few chose to form a singular Guild. Using the other Guilds as nothing more than new challengers to test their PvP skills. In doing so these new breed of Solo Players garnered a new term from the community.
Guild-Breakers
Guild Breakers became almost like a blight on the PvE group. Because of the highly specialized builds meant for pure PvP combat. Fights that most guilds would have won due to their higher player count were now unwinnable as the Guild Breakers would cut through them like a scythe through wheat.
Even as the game neared it's inevitable end as the closing hours ticked down. Certain Guild Breakers still remained on the shrinking servers, eagerly using their last moments to cement themselves as the top Yggdrasil players....
