Markov pretended to sleep in the cart as the group proceeded down the road toward Carne village. Having taken the whole watch Peter insisted that he get some rest as he must've been exhausted, not knowing that Vampires don't succumb to exhaustion or require sleep. But Markov needed to play the role of a human so he faked a yawn and accepted.
As he lay in the cart he could feel the awkward silence throughout the whole group. It seemed that Momon snapping at Ninya had left a more than depressing mood on the group. Markov didn't care. He enjoyed the peace and quiet. It gave him time to think and plan.
He knew he wasn't going to stay with Ainz and his lot forever. There were other parts of the world to explore and see. If this was a truly new world then he wanted to find and strike down all the strongest beings it had. And there was no way Ainz was going to go out and walk across the whole world. Speaking of Ainz, Markov needed to find more information about him. He's the leader of the guild or at least a part of one. So finding out where it is would be a very top priority.
Pushing the thoughts out of his head he decided to sleep as while he didn't need it, he could choose to sleep. It just didn't provide him with anything but rest for his mind.
About a couple hours into the day, he feels the cart stop suddenly. He hears something about goblins as he slowly rises from his slumber. Lazily opening his eyes he catches that the group was surrounded by goblins. But these weren't regular goblins. They had metal armor and had expertly ambushed the group. Furthermore, he could hear they were speaking in the common tongue, something the last goblins didn't try to do.
Goblin boss: "Everyone calms down. We'd rather not cross swords if we can avoid it. Especially with the giant in the plate armor and sleeping beauty in the cart. I know a bad vibe when I feel one, and they're givin' me a serious case of the willies."
Markov: "Sleeping beauty?"
Nabe: "I very much approve of that title."
Markov: "I see you've developed an overnight sense of humor, Nabe." Hopping out of the cart and reaching for his sword. He sees that the cart had reached the outskirts of Carne Village before being stopped in front of a wall made of sticks. Which was strange since this wasn't here last time he was in Carbe village.
Momon: "Hold on, Markov. Let's see how this plays out." From behind the Goblin leader, a young girl looking to be around Nfirea's age steps up.
Girl: "Mister Goblin, what's going on?"
Goblin Leader: "Boss! You made it."
Nfirea: "Enri!"
Enri: "Huh? Nfirea!" She says happily.
Goblin Boss: "You know these guys, Boss?"
Enri: "Of course! Nfirea is a friend and you all must be working for Nfirea. Please, come in!"
Lukrut: "Well, hell, if we're all friends then why not!" He sassy casually stowing his bow and following behind.
Soon enough the group had been escorted into the heart of Carne village. The once-scared people of the village had now reached a state of peace and stability. The goblins Momon had revealed that they'd been summoned when he gave the girl, Enri, a goblin summoning horn which she must've used to create guardians for Carne Village. Not to say it wasn't a good idea but it wasn't the worst he could've done. The goblins had taken the time to train the people of the village on how to defend themselves. Shooting bows, using spears and even swinging swords. The goblins had made themselves a pretty substantial part of the village.
All the while Markov watched all this happen from a hill overlooking the village along with Momon and Nabe. They were simply waiting for Nfirea to point them to their next objective for the job.
