CHAPTER 3
If I had a nickel for every time I've stolen Cap's shield, I'd have two nickels.
PETER SWUNG FROM THE TOP OF A TOWERING BUILDING, a confident smile on his face as he shot a web from his wrist and clutched onto Sam's shield. He landed safely on the ground, shield in hand, and turned to face Sam who was staring at him with a mix of confusion and anger.
''Hey! Who do you think you are, kid?'' Sam demanded, his voice sharp.
Peter dropped the shield at his feet, his hands raised in a gesture of innocence. ''Hold on, wait... I can explain, Mr. Wilson!'' He looked down at the shield, a wave of nostalgia washing over him.
''Go on then, speak up, bug boy,'' Sam snapped, his impatience noticeable.
Peter whipped his head up to face Sam, a look of panic on his face, ''What did you call me?''
Sam stared him down, his eyebrows raised in annoyance, ''I don't have all day,''
''Alright- well, uhm, you see, I'm having a crisis-"
Footsteps echoed in the distance, growing closer. Peter glanced over his shoulder to see who was approaching.
"And how is that our problem?" the newcomer spoke, his tone cold and unfriendly. It was Bucky.
"Took you long enough to get here, Buck," Sam remarked, nodding in Bucky's direction.
Peter looked back and forth between the two, his nerves getting the best of him, "It's not your problem, I mean it could be. You guys are Avengers, right? Any threat is kinda your problem."
"Save it, whatever you're dealing with, it's probably kid's stuff. Stop wasting our time," Sam spoke with authority, his arms crossed over his chest.
"No, it's uh... there's an alien.. inside me...?" Peter stuttered, unsure if that was the right thing to say.
"Excuse you?" Bucky glared at Peter, his expression a mix of annoyance and curiosity.
"Yeah. I'm not too proud of it," Peter scratched the back of his head nervously, awaiting a reply.
"Are we seriously buying this?" Sam looked over to Bucky, his tone doubtful. "I've heard a lot of weird shit, but who the hell gets an alien stuck inside them?''
''Look, I swear i'm not here for trouble. I was sent by Mr Fury, cus I made a really huge mistake,'' Peter began, guilt washing over him.
Sam raised a brow, ''Yeah I can believe that. But really, i'm gonna need an elaboration on the whole alien thing,''
Bucky Looked between the two, in disbelief, more so that Sam was so quick to be on board with what the kid was saying, ''If Fury really wanted us to help, he'd call us himself, He's persistent like that,''
''I know. But he wanted me to deal with it myself, cus y'know- it's my fault..''
Sam looked over at Bucky, then back to Peter, ''Well what the hell do you expect us to do about it?''
''You're the Avengers right?''
''So?'' Bucky interjected.
''So....'' Peter fumbled with his words, mumbling stuff under his breath, not wanting to get on the bad side of the two. In all his time working with the Avengers, he learned that these two were the most complicated to cooperate with, ''I just- could you just, come with me..maybe?''
''Go with you?'' Sam pondered, ''So Fury can make us clean up your mess?''
Peter froze, ''Well yeah, pretty much,''
''Real funny, kid,''
Bucky's gaze lingered on Peter for a while, ''I suppose it wouldn't hurt to go with you, even just to see what exactly we're getting ourselves into,'' Something in him felt compelled to help the kid out.
''You serious, Buck?'' Sam asked, a little surprised.
''What's the harm, really?''
''A freaking alien, Barnes,''
Peter chuckled nervously, watching them bicker and Bucky turned to him again, ''go on then, S.H.E.I.L.D's headquarters is it?''
''Yup,'' he replied sweetly.

Fury watched the three arrive, eyeing them intensely, creating a tension in the air.
''H-hey Mr Fury,'' Peter waved shyly, ''I got them,''
''I can see that,'' Fury nodded, Gesturing with his hands for them to follow him to his office. The three followed in his direction, but Fury quickly stopped Peter in his tracks, ''You stay, kid,''
''What? Why?''
''Because we need to have an adult conversation,''
Peter looked up at Fury, a little disappointed, ''About me. so technically I have the right to be in the room,''
''No you don't,''
''You can't just talk about people behind their backs, Sir,''
Fury glared at him, ''knock it off,'' and with that he made his way out, followed by Sam and Bucky, who looked quite amused with the exchange.
Peter sighed, flopping down onto a nearby chair, looking around mindlessly. Even though he had a literal alien in him currently, he was somehow still bored. He hoped that whatever the three were speaking about would end up working for him, he also hoped they weren't complaining about him too much, but he wouldn't be surprised if they were.
They finally returned, and Peter was left puzzled with how quickly they had finished speaking in the other room. It baffled him how quick these people came to conclusions. Fury headed over to the kid, looking him straight in the eyes, but he didn't need the intense stare of Fury to let him know this was going to be a serious conversation, Fury only did serious conversations.
''We talked about it, and to be completely honest, none of us have the first clue on how that alien works, it's beyond me. However, Falcon here suggests we reach out to Stephen Strange, if you're familiar?''
Falcon did a little wave at the mention of his own name, and Peter smiled awkwardly, ''yeah..I've heard of him,'' He was screwed. Last time he asked for Strange's help he ended up messing the entire multiverse up. He did not want to be on Strange's radar for trouble ever again.
''All right then, we'll contact him,'' Fury was pulling out his phone but was interrupted by Sam taking it off him, ''Strange doesn't do calls, he only appreciates home visits,'' he declared.
''Think I care what the wizard prefers?''
''You should,'' Sam handed the phone back to him.
Fury glared at him but accepted his advice anyway, and removed himself from their presence. When he was gone, both Sam and Bucky turned their attention to Peter, who was nervously fidgeting with his hands, the two men were so effortlessly intimidating.
''What's the whole deal with the alien anyway, why such an issue?'' Sam wondered.
''He's pretty messy,'' Peter simplified his answer.
Bucky raised a brow, clearly he was not too impressed with Peters answer but Sam let out a silent chuckle, a fan of the kids humour, it wasn't often he found someone like him. Peter appreciated Sam's reaction but decided on an answer to appeal to Bucky, ''Lets just say, it's gonna be a real big problem if Mr Strange can't figure out how to fix it..''
