Alan bursts into Alex's hospital room, a whirlwind of concern and energy, fresh off a flight from his volunteer camp abroad. His entrance is like a burst of sunlight piercing through the solemn mood, his face lighting up as he spots Alex awake.
"Alex! You had us all scared for a moment there, you know? Crashing cars is not the hobby you should be picking up," Alan jokes, trying to keep the atmosphere light despite the worry that had plagued him on his way over.
Alex can't help but smile, the familiar banter a welcome distraction from the pain and the heaviness of the past few days. "Yeah, well, I thought I'd try something new, but I don't think it's for me."
Daniel, who's been quietly cutting fruits by Alex's bedside, watches the interaction with a mixed feeling of relief and a twinge of jealousy. He's glad to see Alex smiling and laughing, yet there's a part of him that tightens at Alan's easy camaraderie with Alex.
"So, Alan, decided to finally come back to civilization? The wild missed you already?" Daniel chimes in, keeping his tone light but not missing the chance to mark his presence, his words carrying a double meaning only Alan might catch.
Alan laughs, unphased, "Yeah, couldn't let you have all the fun with Alex. I heard you've been playing the devoted nursemaid. Should I be worried?"
Daniel smirks, slicing an apple with a bit more force than necessary, "Oh, no need for worry. Just making sure Alex gets the best care. And you know, ensuring he's not overwhelmed by... sudden appearances."
Alex watches the back-and-forth, a soft chuckle escaping him. He's touched by Daniel's protective streak, even if it's veiled in humor. "Guys, don't start. Alan, Daniel's been amazing. And Daniel, Alan's just worried about me. We're all friends here, right?"
Daniel meets Alex's gaze, the softness in his eyes belying the sharpness of his previous comments. "Of course, we're friends. Just friends looking out for you, Alex."
Alan nods, sensing the undercurrents but choosing to focus on the positive. "Absolutely. And hey, Daniel, if you ever need a break from your nursemaid duties, let me know. I make a mean fruit salad."
The room fills with laughter, the tension easing as they all navigate this new dynamic. Daniel can't help the feeling of warmth that spreads through him at Alex's acceptance and Alan's genuine concern, even as he silently vows to keep showing Alex just how much he cares, jealous or not—because, after everything, Alex is worth every bit of effort and more.
