The day River was let out of the hospital, he knocked on my door.
It was early in the morning, so I was tired. I flung open the door and saw him standing there with a slight smile. I stepped outside and shut the door behind me. I examined his face, his complexion looking better than it had when we were at the diner together. I smiled, then glanced to my left. "Are you sure you're feeling better?" I asked, looking at him.
He shrugged, "I feel fine, and the doctors said I should be okay." I sighed, then said, "I'm glad you're alright." He nodded as I cleared my throat. "So what brings you here?" I asked, slightly smiling. He smiled, "just wanted to talk."
"About..?" I laughed vaguely. He shrugged and leaned against the doorway, looking at me. I smiled and stepped back. "Come in," I said as he stepped into my house, making his way to the couch.
We sat at an awkward distance, looking at each other. "How was the day and a half at the hospital?" I asked, smiling a little. He laughed merely, looking at my hands.
"Honestly, I cant remember any of it," he spoke, a smile appearing on his lips. I laughed quietly, looking up at him. I then leaned back and stared out the window, examining the bright blue sky. "You hungry?" I asked him, not taking my eyes off of the scenery from out the window.
"I'm fine," he said, tracing my eyes to where I was looking. "I know a place where you can see the sky perfectly," he mentioned. I looked over at him, a smirk slightly curling a corner of my lip. "And where might that be?" I raised an eyebrow.
"You'll see when we get there," he said, pulling my arm as he walked out the door. I followed behind him without question for a few minutes before we arrived at a grassy cliff overlooking the small town, the sky clearly displayed above us. Beautiful lush oak trees were scattered around the grassy area, shading the cliff.
I stared with my mouth open, studying the incredible view. "River," I said softly, just standing there. He smiled, stepping next to me. "How'd you find this place?" I asked, still in awe. He shrugged and said, "I like to do a little exploring here and there."
I smiled, and turned my head to look at him. He softly smiled back, biting his bottom lip slightly. He stepped closer to me and gently put his hand on my cheek, and closed the gap in between our lips.
My cheeks felt warm as he pulled away slightly, smiling.
I looked up into his shining eyes, and whispered, "thank you."
