As my tears fell, so did the rain. I stared at the ground as puddles formed around me from the pouring rain.

Soon, I was completely drenched by the warm droplets coming down on me.

The rain drowned out my tears and I sighed, standing up to try to dry off my shirt.

River just stared at my with sympathetic eyes, exactly what I didn't want.

"River," I spoke bluntly.

"Yeah?"

I sighed again. "I don't want sympathy, okay?" I stated more than I asked.

He looked away from me, and my eyes fell to the pavement below me.

"I'm gonna go find a motel or something to stay at, I can't stay here tonight," I said, looking back at him for a split second, then turning on my heel to start walking away.

"Wait, Hana," River spoke, causing me to turn around again.

I just looked at him as the rain poured down onto me.

"I have an extra room at my place-" he started as I cut him off.

"I'm fine," I said.

He just looked at me, his eyes saying 'you're not fine'.

It was true.

I was so far gone.

Then, he said it.

"You're not okay."

I looked at him, a huge lump forming in my throat.

"I know," I said, my voice cracking. I just shook my head, rain water falling from the top of my head.

We stood there looking at each other for a while, before I cleared my throat.

"I better get to the motel before it closes for the night," I said, blankly staring at the silent houses that lined the street.

"I could stay there with you, you know, if you want," he offered me.I blankly stared at him as I contemplated the idea.

"I guess," I said quietly.

We walked along the flooded sidewalk to the nearest motel and checked in.The lobby smelt musky, but the rooms were decent.I shakily unlocked the door and pushed it open, revealing a large, neatly made bed, a closet, a dresser, and a small bathroom.

I leaned against the floral adorned wall, examining the room.

"I need to go back to my house and get dry clothes," I said slowly. River looked at me, concerned.

"I'll go with you-" he started. "I can go alone," I said, walking out of the warm motel room.

I ran down the sidewalk, water splashing with every heavy footstep. I reached my house, and took a deep breath. I pushed the heavy door open, and silently ran up to my room.

I grabbed everything I needed and stuffed it into an old backpack. I snuck into my dad's room as well, grabbing a large T-shirt and a pair of pajama pants for River.

I flew down the steps and out the door swiftly, sprinting back to the motel. When I arrived, I sat on a small padded chair that was by the door and started unpacking the bag.

I tossed the clothes I brought for River to him, and pulled out my pajamas. We took turns changing in the claustrophobic bathroom, and settled down on opposite sides of the room.

I never left the floral patterned chair until it was time to think about sleep.

"I guess we just take a side of the bed," I said slightly awkwardly, River nodding faintly in agreement.

I slowly climbed into my side of the bed as far to the edge as possible. When River did the same, I switched off the dusty lamp that sat on the nightstand by my head.

I stared at the ceiling in the almost pitch black darkness, thinking about what went wrong with my parents. Was it my fault? I didn't know what to think anymore.

I sighed softly and shut my eyes, slowly falling asleep.
